TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the potential repercussions of criticizing political figures on social media, particularly regarding US visa eligibility. Participants express varying opinions on freedom of speech and its limits in different countries, including Thailand and the US. There are references to political correctness and its impact on free speech in the US, as well as thoughts on censorship in places like Singapore and China.

That's not like a dictatorship AT ALL...smh

Fuck them then, I'm sure another country will be happy to welcome me to spend my money there.

If they're not asking for password (which they will) thenl definitely they have some sort of back channel access to spy on everyone (which they do).
Otherwise they'll only be able to look at your public posts on social media and not private posts. On Facebook you can make all public stuff private in settings with 1 click.
No wonder they call China a spy. Distraction is all it is.
Another country that does the same - North Korea

Just a reminder for those not aware. Most countries have freedom of speech and their own constitution too.

Well I seem to remember a class in law school that outlined civil actions for defamation and slander which has now risen to the level of āyou have offended meā. That was my point about protected class. I donāt really want to get into a legal argument now...thatās why I retired from the practice. Take my post for what itās worth. I am having too much fun tonight.
. Perhaps you could add affirmative action to that list too. Something Australia attempted in certain areas and the results were not what they hoped for.
Wilkes ***********
So many of our different nations have identically worded constitutions and they read so beautifully. Ours was written by slave owners. Russiaās constitution was copied from ours. In the US, political correctness has created a chilling effect on free speech in both the private sector as well as the public sector. People are fired and demoted for their comments if they are not a member of a āprotected classā. That basically refers to a minority, a person of a non-mainstream sexual orientation or someone other than a white male. This originally well intended affirmative action philosophy has basically circumvented the 14th amendmentās equal protection clause. And before you slam me go what I intend to be just an observational, please understand that I have in my mind the many poor white families throughout the US who are suffering so much but do not fall within a āprotected classā and therefore do not receive the benefits and protections that they do desperately need. This is just my observation and it makes me so sad.

Freedom of speech allows you to say it. The consequences vary.

Maxim . Yes. They are 2 different things with their own versions of constitution.
Maxim ***********
Steven pointed out 2 different things, freedom of speech vs what is written in a county constitution. Countries just like they do with religion have different application of the laws.
Maxim ***********
No most countries do not have freedom of speech. Even a country like Singapore have censorship.

Steven de Blaquiere what you feel about Trump is up to you I think heās doing a GREAT job and all you haters should shut up and let him do it I left the States 8 years ago and not living there and listening to everybody from outside the box is amazing how stupid some people are 15 years ago if people said the things that there saying about Americaās President then the Secret Service would be knocking on your door and thatās a fact if you truly love America then let the man work

Itās like we have no choice which country we are born in and that we as individuals really have no choice as to who our so called leaders are, but we do have a choice as to what we think and what we believe in and how we can best make friends from all around the world. We greatly outnumber those that āruleā us. Letās all just stick together and chill like Ghandi and we will surely survive the insanity my man. Thatās what I think !

Bob D'Andrea when Americans like you finally realise that people who dont like Trump have nothing against the Country or its people, the closer we will get to a better understanding of eachother.
No problem my man. I hear you. Please forgive our political system and come meet our people and see our country. Letās keep in touch and Iāll give you some ideas on my favorite places to visit.
Dude, please reapply. Itās a great place. I myself bailed out to Thailand but I still love the US. Nice place to visit but I just decided not to live there.
Where are you from Steve, which nationality? Are you in Chiang Mai?

We will all survive this insanity if we stick together.

Im pretty confident that many countries already do . At least the US is making it public that they do. That could backfire as it gives the culprits a chance to delete or create a new US friendly social media account prior to applying for a visa..š
Wilkes ***********
Definitely no offense taken my friend. I am agreeing with you that everything we say is gonna be read by some government somewhere and could come back to bite us on the butt one day. Your post scared me...Iām gonna quit all trash talking.
. This isnt a direct insult to You or the US or its citizens. so dont take it as one. Its about the person i mentioned introducing a social media search regulation when hes one of the worst culprits himself.
Is he gonna ban all Russians next?
