KL embassy not accepting DTV visa applications. October 8 they will open online application, until then they’re telling everyone to get tourist visas. People are pissed as you can imagine because there’s no where to get this information online.

Copied from another grouoe as a heads up.

Luckily I’m here applying for a different visa… wish me luck

TLDR : Answer Summary
The KL embassy has temporarily stopped accepting Direct to Thailand (DTV) visa applications and will only open online applications on October 8. Until then, they are advising applicants to apply for tourist visas. Community members have expressed frustration over the lack of information and have shared experiences with the online application process, indicating it is straightforward once you select the correct visa category.

you do not have to be in your home country to apply, you just have to be out of Thailand, lots of people are applying out of Thailand, but they are not in their home country, but they are applying their home country online, I did mine here in Canada, but I could’ve been anywhere in the world, it would not have mattered

Very easy to apply online, no issue at all, once I changed my category from remote worker to soft power activities, it took 2 days for my DTV and 1 day for my wife's DTV, online saved us a lot of time and effort.

wow, so it only took two days for your online DTV approval in KL? Could you share more any details about the process or anything to maybe look out for? :) 🙏🏽

Once it all goes all eVisa this will be the way. Might even change to apply only in home country or where you have residence. Less work for Embassy staff.

no reason for it to be in your home country. Plenty of people are overseas and need to apply out of country. That's what Embassies are for

Take a look at Singapore for example. They will only process DTV for locals and those on long term visas. Similar there for some other visa types too.The Embassies have discretion on who they process. Take a look at "B" Visas for work. As an example as a British passport holder I have had them issued in Singapore and Phnom Penh. Certain passport holders ie Indian I believe, can only have them issued in India. Embassies have discretion. Maybe they do not want their staff doing extra work for little reward.

That’s not true. Singapore embassy doesn’t accept Singapore citizens’ DTV application but only foreigners who have residency in Singapore.

Really! So Singapore citizens have to apply outside Singapore? What is the reasoning behind that I wonder.

there is bilateral agreement for visa fee exemption between two countries but Thai embassy Singapore said DTV is new and two countries need to discuss it again which will never happen. The worst thing is that Thai embassy Singapore doesn’t want to reach out MFA Thailand to ask about it.

Interesting. Singapore Thai Embassy always had its quirks. I am sure there are tax issues too ie a Singaporean becoming Tax Resident in Thailand if they stayed over 180 days. I worked Singapore for 10 years and the number of days in Singapore to qualify for local tax was around 180. Any less in a year and you pay a flat tax on Singapore income. My boss travelled frequently and it got very complex

By locals you must mean non-Singaporeans with residency in Singapore as Singapore Citizens cannot apply at the RTE in Singapore.

one of the aims of the DTV is to attract Digital Nomads and by their very nature they tend to be out of their own countries . It would not make much sense. I hope they just carry on as is. As it appears to be working

I think so too
