Why is it so hard for Africans to get a visa to travel to Thailand ? My friends in Nigeria wanted to visit Phuket but it not easy ? I am a American citizen but my Nigeria friends is being denied a visa so what the real issue ?
Answer summary
Many Nigerians face challenges when applying for visas to Thailand, often attributed to a widespread perception of illegality associated with Nigerian citizens. Issues such as a high incidence of overstaying visas and involvement in illegal activities, including drug trafficking and scams, contribute to stricter visa policies for Nigerians. While not all Nigerians fit this stereotype, the actions of a minority adversely impact the rest, leading to a general distrust during the application process. Furthermore, the presence of a significant number of undocumented Nigerians in Thailand adds to the concerns of immigration authorities.

Immigrations from around the free world exchange notes on different counts. They have metrics on people from everywhere
Because they = all of them - are living with the perception that they just want to escape their poor nations to anywhere in the world they will then never leave
Took a cpl of months for my friend to get hers. Got it the day before travelling. Drug test criminal check. Yellow fever Jag. And a whole lot of bungs to people to sign stuff off
Because Nigerians are well known for being scammers drug traffickers and overstayers. Its enough just to walk along the Sukhumvit road and you will see why. You will be constantly approached by Nigerians trying to sell you all kind of💩
Any West Africans I’ve met in European holiday destinations like the Canaries etc. have been drug pushing scum! Selling drugs to adolescents under the cover of selling tat! Looky Looky men!
I live in the same condo as a lovely Nigerian woman. She told me that Nigeria is on the 'red list' and it is very difficult to obtain visas and open bank accounts, etc. This means Nigeria is classed as 'high risk'. She had to purchase the Elite visa.
Probably got an email from the Nigerian prince asking for help paying the fees to have the 500 billion dollar inheritance released and they never received their cut.
Vast amounts of Nigerian in Thai jails and so genuine tourists suffer. Probably didnt help they arrested recent ringleader and he boasted of bringing millions up his ar$e 5555
Americans ARE NOT Nigerians ..It's the passport that officials are interested in ..It's simply " Rich country/ poor country" politics.. nothing more , nothing less ..No need to read anything more into it ..
Unfortunately it's all over the world like that. Nigeria he a "bad name". Many many Nigerians in jail in BKK. As bad as it sounds...many brown ie black coloured people have troubles getting visas in "white" countries. It's extremely difficult for Thais as well to get a visa for a western country. It's nearly impossible or they or their sponsor have to pay a Huge bond to make sure they don't stay
I’m Aussie and I can virtually buy a ticket and travel wherever I want as long as I have a valid passport and no convictions.
However trying to get a Thai national with homes and farms and condos over here for a 3 week holiday is another story. I don’t understand how we have so many illegals in Australia when it’s a nightmare for legalsto get here.
I live in Thailand and wanted to bring my partner of 10 months for a holiday to Australia to meet family and clear my sold house but rejected because she may run off and overstay after landing
I have paid high taxes all my life and Australia gives nothing for the decent hard working person
If my partner was black with a criminal record or even better an ISIS bride im sure it would be approved
We were rejected and my agent said it's not worth reapplying now as most are being rejected
As per usual the small amount of bad people spoil it for all
Craig Pickard Same here in Netherlands, pay a lot of tax money to people illegally entering the country, and regular foreign visitors are refused entry.
Phil Wilson honestly i always stay sukhumvit 24 and there's increasing black people around every year. Probably Americans but they bring their American issues with them, weed everywhere, drink too much and get too loud and aren't respectful. Indians are still worse though
Jake Fit the Americans are not the problem. If you walk from Nana to Ask BTS you will see the real problem. A guy posted a YouTube video about it where he was offered drugs by African street dealers about 10 times. And there are the African freelancers, in some locations they outnumber the Thai freelancers.
Jake Fit What I'm referring to is the dealers. I mostly see them from Soi 3 up to and sometimes past Soi 11. Others have told me they're everywhere - even as far of as Thong Lor.
Unfortunately there are some countries within Africa that have bad reputations when it comes to scammers etc..... Nigeria probably has the worst reputation for having their citizens overstaying in many countries, working illegally and becoming part of scam networks with those foreign countries.
I guess thats my conclusion on your question. I hope your friend finds a way to see Thailand.
LavenderRaccoon9568 I spend time in india... fortunate enough to be able to stay 6 months at a time on a tourist visa. India also has a bad reputation but Nigeria is by far the worst
The country doesn’t trust that they will not come and overstay their visa. My Thai wife, 57, restaurant owner, was denied a US tourist visa last month, presumably by the same assumption.
Nigerian syndicates operating out of Thailand have increasingly shifted toward high-tech fraud, frequently blending romance scams with drug trafficking networks" eg..
Paul Anthony McDermott and now Thailand is looking for police clearance paers asxell from everyone? Its a safety factor, not allowing skunks into their country, who been causing all the problems
Every Nigerian I have met in Thailand in the last 4 years has tried to get me to buy drugs. When there is so many doing bad things it’s easy to label the entire country.
Leevi Kiviranta the topic is about Nigerian citizens...not all Nigerian citizens have the stereotypical skin colouring that you think they have...so you may in fact have come across a Nigerian without even knowing it!!!! Even in Hua Hin.....though seeing some of the old sun worshippers who live there, theyre probably darker than most Nigerians 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A dash of racism, with a sprinkle of a history of certain nationalities being troublemakers and lawbreakers. The bad ones ruin it for everyone else, as is the same everywhere in the world.
I don't think there's a higher rejection rate out of hand for some African nations, but the visa applications for those nations do require additional things like letters from work and stuff like that, which can make the application a more difficult prospect than other countries.
