Why do people find laminating a visa humorous at Thai immigration?
I travelled back on Sunday to Chiang Mai after a weekend in Kuala Lumpur - gave them my passport and my laminated DTV and he showed the other immigration sat next to him and they both laughed and I then I laughed. Straight though in 30 seconds no problem 🙌

That is a nice story and very normal for Chiang Mai. Officers here see DTV many times now so they know it fast. When you show passport and DTV card clear like that they just smile and let you through. Thirty seconds is normal at Chiang Mai now.
Some airports like Bangkok can be more serious, but up north they are relaxed. Your laminated DTV was a good idea, easy for them to see. Keep doing that and always have the approval email on your phone just in case they want to check.

Can someone explain why it would be considered funny to laminate it? are you not supposed to show your visa on entry? laminating just keeps it from getting destroyed no?

because you put your visa number in online. When I got my DTV in January everyone told me in this group to print it out and get it laminated so I did. I don’t think they see it too often so not sure.Chris ********
Ah I see now, Im going to laminate mine too, it cant hurt and can only make the process easier IMO.

Technically it makes the process sometimes a bit more difficult, the lamination can cause reflections when scanned.Sophie ******

yeah it’s honestly does and make sure you check the date they have wrote on your passport to make sure it’s 180 days

yeah we all did. I think it’s breaks the ice and doesn’t make it seem so serious which is nice for both of us. As you read a lot of negativity on here
