Quick location question;

Which counter is for the TR visa extension of 30 days, and where is it currently located? I remember it moving around some.

Appreciate the help! Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Bangkok, the counter for extending a TR visa for 30 days is at Chaengwattana. However, if you have a free stamp (60-day visa exempt entry), that extension is done at IT Square. It's essential to know which visa you hold as it determines the correct location for your extension process. For most, arriving early can help avoid long lines, especially in Section J at Chaengwattana where many 30-day extensions are processed.

The reason you're having people (myself included 😉 ) ask over and over is;

Many, MANY people show up here, get stamped in 'free stamp' on a 60 day visa exempt entry and mistakenly think that is a "tourist visa" 😮

AND

while at most offices it won't matter if you want a 30 day extension on a free stamp or a real tourist visa entry (seeing as those are done at the same location

In Bangkok those extensions are done at two separate locations

free stamp extensions are done at IT Square

real tourist visa extensions are done at Chaengwattana

Granted those offices are only a couple KM apart but it can sure mess you up, if you show up, queue up and find out you're at the wrong office for the 30 day extension you want

Best of luck with it (y)

the real question
@Annina ******
is

Did you BUY a tourist visa from a thai consulate outside thailand before you came here and does your current entry stamp say TR60

OR

Did you just show up here and get stamped in for free on a 60 day visa exempt and your current entry stamp says (ผ.60-ม.17)

That is what controls where you go in Bangkok for your extension

Where as if you're getting an extension on a REAL tourist visa entry (TR60) <- meaning you bought a tourist visa from a thai consulate before you showed up here, you go to the main immigration office at the government complex (Building B) at Chaengwattana Road

*********************************************

as you're here on a TR60 entry stamp so the main immigration office at Chaengwattana in Section J is where you go 🙂

You will need a TM30 (notification of foreigner) receipt showing you're registered as staying in bangkok.

In Bangkok if you're getting a 30 day extension on a 60 day visa exempt/free stamp (ผ.60.ม17) you go to the satellite Immigration office that is at IT Square Laksi Plaza

For Bangkok it is IT Laksi Square

Hi, yes Bangkok. However I called Immigration and they said counter J at cheang wattana? Which one is correct?
Graham ******
@Annina ******
that is if you have a Tourist Visa not Visa Exempt
Graham ******
Ok but the one that has moved is Visa Exempt not Tourist Visa (which many say when they mean Visa Exempt)

Where are you now in Thailand?

I know. The many times I’ve been there, they’ve never let us in at that time. Either way, it’s easily enough to go and get what you red done before the office opens up. I wish IT Square was set up like CW. The only thing I like about IT Square is making an appointment and not having to wait in that crazy line up.

@James *******
really? When I was there last it wasn’t 5:30am that they let us in the building. It was closer to 6:30ish.

I only go there to file my TM30 which is never busy either. Always the first person to get into see her.

Wouldn’t she still have to take a queue number? I’d think showing up at that time it would mean a long wait. I know shouldn’t question you and your knowledge though 😉.

I’m well aware what time they open up. I take it you have never been there before. Trust me, I know what I’m talking about. I’m there every 4-5 months.

I’m not there that early. I usually arrive around 4-5am so I’m not at immigration all day. I much prefer to be there that early, copy anything I need and relax with the wife and have something to eat and a coffee while I wait for them to open. They usually let you in the building around 7am.

@Randy *******
they let you in the building at 5:30 am and that's when you can sit in the 200+ chairs they have running down next to immigrations

BUT

There usually aren't many people in Section J <- which is the section where they'd go if they're getting a 30 day extension on a tourist visa they bought before they showed up here.

I think they could show up at about 7;30-8 and be fine, without a super long queue in that section ONCE they open the immigration office doors as let the several hundred people in to the office

in Bangkok. I got a hold of the phone line and they said it is counter J at Chaeng Wattana- is this sill correct?

@Annina ******
do you have an actual visa or are you here on a visa exempt stamp? It makes a difference as where you go for the extension.

@Randy *******
as stated in my post, it is a TR visa, not an exemption
Tod *********
@Annina ******
well as long as you're sure it's a TR60 you go to Chaengwattana 🙂

These are the common found requirements for the 30 days extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht...be sure to have a TM30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration.
