What was your experience with immigration in Chiang Mai after flying from Hanoi?

Just flew into Chiang Mai from Hanoi. 1st time using DTV for entry.

Lady at immigration looked like I had 3 heads. I said this is 180 days each entry and she shrugged her shoulders.

Stamped in for correct amount of days it appears.

Cannot believe how quick Chiang Mai handles incoming flights. In and out in 5 minutes.

Hope everyone enjoys this! See you on the road somewhere.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience entering Chiang Mai from Hanoi, highlighting the efficient immigration process that took only 5 minutes. They mentioned the 180-day entry stamp, noted a lack of familiarity from immigration staff regarding new processes, and indicated the importance of presenting a printed eVisa. Other users commented on their own experiences with immigration times, the necessity of eVisa documentation, and suggested that Chiang Mai's low international flight volume contributes to faster processing.

Well, Chiang Mai hardly gets any international flights, that's why. BTW what airline did you fly from Hanoi? Didn't know there were direct flights from there to Chiang Mai, must have been a low cost carrier such as Vietjet?

Just got my 180 day stamp coming in from Vietnam. Took two ladies to figure things out as they both took to their phones, this is still pretty new for them, but it didn't take that long so I am glad it all went well, next up, 90 day reporting and the first one is in person and don't forget your TM30!🥰

Did you need to present the eVisa paper with the QR code or is it in the system and linked to your passport

No, it's not linked. Immigration needs to see a print out (some people have said they presented their phones) but presenting a passport only won't work. Immigration and MOFA are two separate entities. Therefore, only extensions of stay issued by Immigration will be in their computer system. Visas have to be scanned by Immigration at the Port of entry each time you re-enter. This applies to both visa stickers and e-visas.

Best to present the printed e-visa together with the passport.

Paper is so smart,

paper weighs nothing,

paper doesn't run out of battery,

paper doesn't require (forgotten) passwords,

paper doesn't auto-off after x seconds,

paper can be easily transferred,

paper doesn't require wifi.

And Thai officials love paper.

I applied through Ho Chi Minh. Waited 5 biz days (7 calendar days).

Flew from Hanoi today to Chiang Mai. Airport was much quicker than DMK (took over 1 hour waiting in line at DMK on arrival last time).

Flew Air Asia. I didn't see any other planes landing at same time so that may have been why.

All depends on how busy is airport. I also had 5 minutes immigration at Bangkok sometimes.

Both of Bangkok's airports are 100 times busier than tiny little Chiang Mai.
