Just passed through immigration at Chiang Mai Airport. It seems very relaxed - the staff were friendly, even smiling and I didn’t see anyone being questioned or having issues.

Different vibe to Bangkok.

I just did a visa run to make sai and the dude was a dick. Told me I only can stay 30 days bit gave a regular stamp, even after I told him my ed visa, is being processed in phuket. Lol OK bro

Accuracy of a broadly defined term, cool story bud. Could have recognized the story for what it was instead of being soccer mom about it but that cool.

I never said you were giving advice....the emphasis of my comment was on accuracy. Cant believe i needed to explain my comment. Sheesh. Out.

I think you’re the one with the ego dude, berating the immigration officer for doing his job and being honest with you and proclaiming that you’re entitled to be here because of whatever amount of money you claim to spend here.
Andy **********
I wasn't giving advice, and I'm well aware you can't get an extended visa in mae sai, you have to go to Thai consulate to do that. It's pretty obvious what I was doing, which is within the law. Some snowflakes that were triggered by a word which is still representative of it meaning wanna start shit.

I was just addressing a situation that was relative to the post for awareness. Fuckin internet warriors. Get over your egos.
Maxim ***********
I still have absolutely no idea why you are mad at him. He told you the truth about the 30 days visa exempt he is giving you. What stamp did you expect to get if not a visa exempt? Maybe answer the question for once.
Mark ******
Although I usually don't comment on these types of exchanges...I've learned from the experts here that terminology is critical for giving visa and related advice.
Maxim ***********
We are calling out the snowflakes who try to blame an officer who did his job. Mae Sai is the easiest border ever to border bounce, you are just not aware of the terminology so you got own by an officer without even knowing it.
Andy **********
This is why none of us can have nice things
Andy **********
Ok OK, I've only been to a few countries , but most of them call it a visa if you fly in for less than 3 months. Jesus what a bunch of maggots jumping on me for misusing a very broadly defined term. I bet you all have wonderful relationships. Fuck.
Maxim ***********
Andy Mitchell Each country have their own name. In Cambodia you can have a Ordinary visa at the border extendable up to a year, which is very different to Thailand.

EXEMPT means you are EXEMPT from needing a visa. It is not a visa.
Maxim ***********
If you mean that the officer told you you could not extend for 30 more days than I have no idea how your discussion with him even got there it seems like a giant miscommunication.
Andy **********
@Maxim **********
this is retarded. A 30 day exempt is still a visa, but with less paperwork. They call it a visa in Japan, Burma, cambpdia, and Laos. A 30 day exempt.

why where you told you had to leave?
Maxim ***********
@Andy *********
In your OP you cry that you only got 30 days, what else did you expect if not 60 days tourist visa. You said you try to visa run at the border which is not even a thing.
Andy **********
Maxim Thibodeau I never asked for a 60 day tourist, I'm well aware that is a different process, not sure where you getting this info about me from????
Maxim ***********
Andy Mitchell It is well documented to avoid BKK and Phuket while flying in on a visa exempt or tourist visa, these are the city you want to avoid flying in.
Andy **********
Lol it doesn't mean anything anyways. I got one before in Vientiane and flew to bkk, was held for 3 hours, told many times I had to leave. Bit after many phone calls I was allowed to fly back to cm
Maxim ***********
I am not sure what you expected him to give you at the border... a 60 days tourist visa? I am really confuse.

ORIGINAL POSTER
You got 30 days with the possibly of an extension, it’s not a guarantee and your Ed visa doesn’t mean anything unless it’s in your passport when you present it to the IO.
Maxim ***********
@Andy *********
No, a 30 days visa exempt is NOT a visa.
Andy **********
Lol I'm well aware, a 30 day exempt is still a visa, be it not a tradional one it's still a visa. And yes, a non exempt us still good for 60 days. You just have to check in at immigration and pay 1900b
Maxim ***********
Andy, sorry to say but you are clueless and the one who have zero idea about the difference between a Visa run and a Border run. Nobody is getting 60 days at the border.
Andy **********
@Kyle *******
yea but I can obviously extend 30 days and once my new ed visa is in place I'm good for another year or 2. He just took extra long (20 minutes) and grilled me about everything even tho I've played by all the rules. I feel like he was trying to make me miss my bus. I'm not overly mad but I was within all the laws and have given a lot of money to Thailand.

If this crap continues I can see a lot of us jumping ship for neighboring (friendlier) countries and taking our money with us.

a regular stamp is only 30 days though? Your Ed visa being processed has nothing to do with whatever you get at Mae sae.

CM same as KK, never had any problem.
