I am over 50 military veteran in usa wanting to move to thailand. Should I apply for tourist visa while here in the states? E-visa or regular? I hear there are people there that know people that can help without much of the normal costs.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US military veteran over 50 considering moving to Thailand has several visa options to explore. The community suggests applying for an E-visa, specifically the Non-Immigrant O visa, which can be done in the US. It is advised to verify the passport type, as it may influence the visa eligibility and duration. Some members recommend arriving on a 30-day visa exempt entry, which can be extended while in Thailand, or applying for a tourist visa before arrival. Additionally, there are suggestions to engage visa agencies in Thailand for assistance and to investigate if Thailand is suitable for retirement before making the move.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

How do you get around the round trip ticket proof if you plan on staying?
Lera *******************
@John ******
when we went in January, they did not ask but I did not have lots of Suitcases or dogs so this time, I will come in with an onward ticket.

come in on a free 30 day visa exempt an extend for another 30 here ( the above info is wrong as u get a 30 days extension and each visa exempt entry is 30 days NOT 14 for americans) ) > Much easier

Suggest you come first and see if thailand is a place you really want to retire to if you have not spent day to day time here before.

E-visa or go into your local Thai Consulate and apply for a tourist visa. Try for a 3 month so that you can open a Thai bank account to deposit the 800k which is requited to hold a Non O (based on retirement)

OR

As US citizen you can get a Visa Exempt entry stamp for 30 days that can be thst can be extended for another 14 days. You can do a border run and get another 14

days.

You can do visa yourself or go through a agent here.

Just come first and make sure you will be happy here and is where you want to be.

1. Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months.

2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months.

3. Financial evidence (e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party).

4. Proof of relationship to a family in Thailand.

please dm me names contact info thanks
Andi ***********
John Brown No you do not need a Thai sponsor. There are agents in Thailand that help with the process especially with the long term Non O retirement visa upon arrival for over 50s. Non O can be done from outside/within Thailand.

please send contact info thanks also how long is this visa good for?
Andi ***********
@John ******
The visa is for a year and renewable on a yearly basis. Where are you intending to live ? Best to use agent in the area you'll reside.

Looking for answers also, we are in the same situation, US vet over 50 and coming in September. Just want to know best option.
Andi ***********
Lera Toussaint Browne Non O retirement visa for 50+ you can apply for outside/within Thailand. Within Thailand it is an easy process, can do yourself or with an agent. No mandatory health insurance required if you apply in Thailand. OA retirement visa applied for only outside of Thailand and has mandatory requirements such as insurance.

Thank you, last night after going over the application and requirements for the OA, we decided to come in visa exempt and do the Non O once we are there. Seems less complicated. Thanks you!

Thanks, so I should wait until right before my flight? Do I have to have a round-trip ticket when I really want to stay?
Mary ********
@John ******
Or you can buy a cheap throw away ticket to Vietnam or whereever rather than buying round trip, something showing your intent is to leave the country when your stay is finished. Look at whichever option is your most cost effective option.
Brandon ************
@John ******
for a tourist visa you generally need a round-trip ticket.
