Hi Group, You guys are incredibly helpful and insightful, so hoping you can help me as well. I am a US citizen, and planning on moving to Pattaya next March 2021. I will be 48yr old and cant apply for non immigrant O or O-X visa since I am not 50. I was thinking my best option for a thai visa long stay might be a ED visa, in which I could take thai language classes (and yes I would actually take them). I know things with Visas have cracked down quite a bit but I do have a solid financial history I can provide and can meet the 800,000 baht balance if needed. What is your advice on my best options for a visa? Is it indeed the ED visa, or another one that I am unaware of?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen planning to move to Pattaya at 48 years old is exploring visa options. Since he cannot apply for the Non-O or O-X visa due to age restrictions, he considers an ED visa for language classes. Commenters suggest looking into the Elite Visa, enrolling in a Thai university, or obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for an initial stay while exploring further options.

Or get METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa : gives you up to total 270days stay with 60days increment) and seek your best option during that...

That sounds like what I am looking for...

Enroll in a Thai university to earn a Masters Degree ...a two year program with weekend classes,

OR

(pardon me for peeking)

Seek a Professorship position with a Thai University Medical School. With your distinguished background in America and education you would be an asset to their faculty and students IMHO.

Good luck..

Welcome to Thailand

Good luck Dr. Halter...we wish you success in your quest.

Feel free to ask again if we can ever be of assist again. You have homework to do ๐Ÿ˜‰

Commenting closed.

BTW...A Non O Volunteer Visa could be another option to research.

hi James. Thanks for the advice. I've looked and actually applied at a few Bangkok universities for adjunct professor. I get nothing in return. Just assumed they don't like farangs like in most jobs there. Any tips?

You can look into the Elite Visa, personally I don't know a lot about it,

But know of a few people who can stay here for 5 yesrs..

Someone here will be more educated on it than me,

But you start by looking into that,

Plus things can and probably will change in a years time

I have looked at the elite. It's very expensive and in my mind I'll be 50 in about a year and a half once I get there, so I just need to make it until then in the most cost efficient manner
