Now that I’m in Thailand until early October, I’m interested in how this in-country “pensioner” option differs from the OA i could get from Sydney based on retirement. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the differences between the in-country pensioner option available in Thailand and the OA retirement visa that can be obtained from Sydney. Commenters note that the specifics of the pensioner option are currently unclear and depend on yet-to-be-defined regulations, which are expected to be announced with a potential launch by September 1st. They mention advantages of the current retirement visa, such as reduced costs, lack of 90-day reporting fees, and the absence of medical insurance requirements.

No comment. It is what it is.

Unfortunately no one can give you any details yet because the law hasn't been written.

So although these have been announced, they don't actually exist and no one knows for sure if/when they will and what the exact rules and guidelines are.

They've said September 1st launch date but right now it's just wait and see.

and yet, it seems that you can apply!

you can't. If you ask the BOI and not some no name website you're linking, they'll just send you the infographic and tell you to wait.

You can't apply for something that doesn't exist.

But it’s quite easy to reach 80,000 usd/ year

Only benefit from current "Retirement" visa, i.e.Type "O" with yearly extensions is: 1,900 baht visa a cost. no 90 day reporting at no charge, yearly multiple exit re-entry at 3,900, monthly income of 60,000 baht or 800,000 baht deposited for 5 months with 400,000 for the remainder of the year. No medical insurance requirement. So in essence my yearly cost of staying in Thailand is visa cost 1,900 baht, with multiple exit re-entry 3,900 baht. Something doesn't add up!
