TLDR : Answer Summary
The US Embassy in Thailand has announced it will not issue further letters for extending stays after July 31, advising US citizens to either return to the US or obtain a long-stay visa for Thailand. The community expressed mixed reactions, discussing the implications for expats living in Thailand, the situation with other nationalities, and sharing personal experiences related to the visa process during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The reason they are doing this is because there has been no response from the Thai government to there request about the status of the Amnesty. The UK and Australia the same.
let's start at the end. America's doing a lot of testing? that's why cases are so high? explain then how being 23rd in the world in tests per 1 million population translates to being 12th in the world in total cases.
most sources have tourism at around 15 percent of the Thai economy. that's more than the USA (around 3%). meanwhile industry is around 35 percent agriculture is around 8. the service sector 56 percent. presumably we can assume that includes tourism.
even if we assume that all of the 15 percent is Western tourists? numbers i've seen: 16.3 million East Asia, 10.6 million ASEAN, 6.7 million Europe, 1.6 million Americas.
so really? the The economy depends on tourism? Thailand needs YOU??? the tourism sector doesn't even depend on Western tourists. c'mon.
next time, try numbers instead of made up talking points.
i keep telling my son, f the US before the US f's him. Try going through a divorce in that shit hole. And now get ready to pay reparations. It never ends.
then throw a tantrum when they don't get their way. because tantrums are so much more effective than problem solving and everyone should care about their feelings.
Hey guys its the Same for the Brits and probably most of Europe also Australia and the ozzys got to pay for there quarantine now. As there minister said you have had enough time and flights now you have to pay

to those crowing with delight that the Americans are shipping out...
not so fast.
those of us with actual visas are harder to get rid of than herpes.
the problem with getting an actual visa is your beach time is constantly interrupted by your four employees who are bombarding you with questions as they do all the actual work.

Japan are not allowing transit passengers. This is inaccurate.

I think they are. From Timatic 01.07.2020:
"Passengers transiting through Tokyo (NRT) must transit on the same calendar day."
whether a particular flight is cancelled is a different issue to whether Japan is allowing transit. A lot of flights to a lot of places have been cancelled.
When you look at the cancellation boards, a lot of these flights have been cancelled for a long time, it's not like they just suddenly cancelled them the day before, they have been cancelled for months.
read please. Maybe you are unable to understand. Good schools deserve to be well treated and to hell with the shit schools and lousy agents who rip off so many. They do not deserve consideration.
this post is about the amnesty for expats not about schools or agents, what are you going on about ?

Mike Dobbin no i mean the shit show where 'Muricans are dumb enough to believe in their "team." like Trump lying makes Biden not a liar? like Democrats being on corporate dick means Republicans aren't? c'mon.
if you think a virus--a literal force of nature--will evaporate due to an election? congrats. you're part of the shit show.
if you knew the hoops i went through to form a company worthy of Chaeng Wattana's blessing i suspect that envy would evaporate.
that said i'm looking forward to not going back there in the middle of a shit show.

The US is making allowances for the situation and people who can't leave, with extensions and extra flexibility for late applications. For people on visa waivers they can give repeated 30 day periods but looks like you may have to justify it.
12x a year on a 30 day non-visa isn't a problem, trying to stay more than 6 months out of 12 on 30 day stamps is the problem. that said i don't know if it's calendar year or rolling 12 months...
one country's visa rules do not resemble another's. a visa to the US is multiple entries, multiple years. if people actually work on oil rigs etc, and want to use 30 day stamps, they have to make sure they're gone enough.
if people are in a holding pattern because they think the paperwork's almost done for forming their company, i strongly advise a tourist visa instead of a 30 day stamp. again, don't ask how i know :p
um... i should get the appropriate visa? you missed the line about "holding pattern while forming company," i think... 'round here, form a company correctly and it can come with a work permit. tends to require your company actually does stuff and has revenue, but it works.
i suspect Chaeng Wattana's generous one year extension on my non-b will do just fine...
I wasn t accusing anyone of impropriety. I just said do the right thing. Here or in Canada

George ok! also worth mentioning that *how* you do the right thing matters.... one doesn't want to be in the position of needing to fly into Thailand one more time to get your work permit...
i can testify that it can be done, but unless lobbying the immi boss at don muang for 'just 15 more days' sounds like fun, it would be advisable to plan ahead...
couple of places Aussie, NZ, Bulgaria, Canada, China and other places. Famous though I wouldnt say so πππ

huh? this is an announcement from the american embassy, not thai immigration, and basically just states the obvious that they aren't going to lie on paper for the sake of any american tourists who want to pretend they are stranded in thailand.
