What Should I Know When Changing From a NON-OA to a NON-O Visa Extension Based on Marriage in Thailand?

Useful, I hope, account of what I learned while changing from a NON-OA TO a NON-O visa extension based on marriage:

WARNING: At the Thai embassy in HCMC, Vietnam I asked for the less expensive single entry visa and was told by two Imm. officers in excellent English and in no uncertain terms that if I purchased the multiple entry visa for $200 I would not need to get an extension when I returned - just do my 90 day reports. This was wrong! I still needed to get the extension. (My wife was told the same in Thai by the officers there.)

Lessons from Hua Hin Immigration applying for extension based on marriage:

1. The Photos โ€“ outside photo (with mate) must include the entire house (as well as house numbers clearly shown) inside photos (with mate) must include couch (sofa) and TV (or bedroom showing bed.)

2. Bank proof must include copy of bank book updated THE SAME DAY (as well as the letter and two months print-out of balances.)

3. If your passport needs to be renewed before the end of a year, you can only be extended to the date it (the passport) expires. (They can transfer your visa but not the extension. )

4. Proof-of-Marriage Certificate must be renewed within the past three months (can do this at a government office on the top floor of Market Village)

5. For renters โ€“ copy of landlordโ€™s Thai ID, rental agreement and house registration (Tabien Baan) all signed by landlord.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experiences and lessons learned while changing from a NON-OA to a NON-O visa extension based on marriage in Thailand. They described their encounter with the Thai embassy in Vietnam, where they were misinformed about visa requirements, emphasizing the need for an extension despite being told otherwise by immigration officers. Key points included specific documentation requirements for the extension application, such as photos, bank proof, and marriage certificate validity. The comments highlighted the importance of verifying information from reliable sources and clarified the differences between visa types and extensions.

Don't know if I'm just lucky or missing something here. I've had a Non-Imm O Visa extension based on marriage Multiple Entry for the past 5 years. Always extended inside Thailand. I have never had to leave country every 90 days, just do 90 day reports. When I travel, Immigration just stamps me out and back in, no extension needed.

Is this due to me extending Visa inside Thailand?

You have an Extension of Stay as in the text on the second line of the stamp in your passport.

It is not a visa, so please do not compare or mix the rules, different things different rules.

Sorry

Gentlemen. I was aware of the usual practice of leaving every 90 days on a multiple entry visa. I said this to the Imm. officers at HCMC and they insisted I could just do the 90 report - no need to leave. My mistake was in believing them.

Ha ha. Yep y'r much too quick ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘

Always nice when others type the same and acknowledge that my text is okay.

Also think non imm O multi based on mariage is valid for 1 year and you have to leave the kingdom after 90 days for a border bounce to get another 90 days..

a VISA, the sticker you buy at the Thai Consulate gives you 90 days on entry into Thailand and for the 1 year multiple entry this means every 90 days you leave the country and come back in to activate a new 90 day period. You can do this until the valid until date mentioned on the visa.

an Extension of Stay, a big stamp from the Immigration Officer has NONE, zero entries as you already are inside Thailand. This Extension of Stay will be valid for 1 year and if you stay inside Thailand, you report at Immigration that you are 90 days inside Thailand.

If you like to travel you apply for a Re-Entry Permit.

quote: "They can transfer your visa but not your extension" ? Think it's the other way around...They can transfer y'r extension, not the visa. You need to keep both passports.

WARNING: Do not ask rules and regulations of the Immigration Office at employees from a Thai Consulate and vice versa.

TOTAL different offices, it is like asking the girl at the counter of
****
if the ham/cheese sandwich is discounted at the Family markt.

> multiple entry visa for $200 I would not need to get an extension when I returned - just do my 90 day reports

For everyone who may read this,

1. remember, on a multiple entry visa, you can not stay longer than 90 days, so no 90 day reports are needed.

2. Never trust what the consulate says that affects the inside of Thailand, and never trust the immigration office on things that are visa related.
