TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is concerned about returning to Thailand after their volunteer visa expired, especially since it has been over 90 days since they left. Other commenters provide insights based on their experiences. Some advise obtaining a new tourist visa before returning and ensuring possession of proof of funds, onward travel, and lodging arrangements to avoid issues upon re-entry. It's highlighted that returning through smaller airports like Phuket may present fewer challenges compared to Bangkok. However, caution is advised as immigration officers are likely aware of the nature of these types of visas.

Why donโ€™t you just apply for a new passport ?

they really have no reason tje refuse me after being out of the country 120 days

A new passport does not work for hiding the old anymore. Biometrics has been in use for 3 years here. A friend tried that route and got refused on arrival in Thailand.

you can switch that over I believe

I was on volunteer visa, then covid extension. I left to my home country (US) for 6 weeks, came back no problems.

Some member in this group thinks because I came back through Phuket I didn't get hassled, that BKK is bad but Phuket is not. I do not know that to be true, just that I had no issue coming back through Phuket.

Also, noteworthy, on my return to Thailand I had a tourist visa, if that makes a difference.

Best of luck.

fly directly in to Phuket OR Chiang Mai then don't do it in bangkok. ๐Ÿ™‚

of course your agent is gonna say that, they don't care in the least, they have your money, you have the stamp in your passport, I'm telling you what the best options are to do to get back into the country with a b/s volunteer visa in your passport.

you could get a new passport when you're back in your country and come in without any stamps, it'd still be in the system but there won't be a giant stamp in your passport at least ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck with it, (y)

no work permit with these visa thats for sure

100% it was totally that you came back thru Phuket that you managed to skate in like you did.

You would be pulled aside and questioned entering at BOTH bangkok airports even if you had a REAL volunteer visa and work permit before ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

ye i hope so, also i have never hear anyone directly say they were on a volunteer visa and they were refused. cheers

I think you will be fine. Have the visa, the 3 proofs, good attitude and you will likely be fine. Always travel with a plan B. Smaller airports (Phuket) are better than BKK, probably.

i know he is correct, i even asked my agent and she said no need to cancel, yes i will certainly be getting a visa, as its been 90-120 days i hope that also helps my cause

This site 'Thai Visa Advice...' is useful and with a lot of people with practical experience. Also their are a bunch of quacks (Tod is not one of them).. Take to the good with the bad. Realize you are taking risks.

I have read several people say "They know somone.. " or "Heard of people..." having issue coming back in.. Although, I have not read any first-person accounts.

Tod is extremely knowledgeable and I don't really know about cancelling the visa. I suspect if cancel is required, the visa agent did that for me when they converted to covid extension. I think Tod's other advice was to get a visa before you come, which I did, so I also recommend that.

was it a volunteer visa where you dont volunteer, tod thinks i needed to cancel it but it expired, im.not sure

Okay, face it thousands of people got those bull shit, back door, under the table "pretend to volunteer" volunteer visas from foundations they can't pronounce let alone ever volunteered at a single day

TO A PERSON almost everyone has gotten put thru the proverbial wringer comin back in with one of those volunteer visa/extension stamps in their passport.

I'd say BUY a single entry tourist visa where ever you are BEFORE you try to wing your way back here. Have the 3 proofz when you land here,

proof of funds (20K baht or the equivalent in CASH)

proof of onward travel (back to the country your passport comes from in 60 days)

proof of lodging (where you're going to stay once you get out of the Test&Go hotel)

With those things you're as prepared as you can be to enter the country and even with all that, you still are gonna get grilled and taken aside about that visa/extension stamp

Believe me not one immigration officer looking at that stamp will be fooled into thinking it's a visa/extension gotten above the table, the correct way, to a person they will know it was a hand your passport and a pile of baht to an agent visa/extension gotten under the table ๐Ÿ™

My husband and I were on Volunteer Visa and came back after 3โ€“4 days in Cambodia with US passports. They asked for a return ticket to US in 30 days before they stamped a 30 day visa exempt entry at customs.

@Tod ********
I corrected it on my main comment for accuracy. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Otherwise it makes no difference for us ๐Ÿ™ƒ
Tod *********
@Eti ********
there is no tourist visa that you get at the airport ๐Ÿ™ you get a FREE visa exempt entry when you come in ๐Ÿ™

Good to know! We always get a tourist visa at the airport, but this time around with COVID-19 was different.

@Eti ********
did you cancel the visa?
Tod *********
@Eti ********
you didn't get stamped in on a tourist visa ๐Ÿ˜• You BUY a tourist visa from the consulate before you come here <- meaning if you didn't buy a tourist visa from the thai consulate in Phnom Penh before you flew back you got stamped in for free on what's called a 30 day visa exempt entry and they can always ask for proof of onward travel back to the country your passport comes from entering that way if the people at passport control want to

is this true foe these types of volunteer visa, aka the bull shit ones
Tod *********
@Scott *********
remember just stamping OUT on a non-o visa extension does not cancel it officially, it just stamps you out of the country.

Before you left you should have contacted the agency you got the visa extension from and had them officially cancel it at the immigration office that issued it. ๐Ÿ˜•

the bogus volunteer visas don't have a work permit.

lots of people went on those visas i know reentry wasnt possible but heard nothing about wp
Scott **********

I never did anything to apply for a work permit so you may be mistaken but to be honest no idea.
Bobby ********
Scott Williams. Yes, but a volunteer visa is associated with a work permit, and to the best of my knowledge they both have to be formally cancelled
Bobby ********
When you say "one of those visas", you're talking about the bogus agency-obtained visas? If so, was it cancelled before you left?
