What should I include in my response about future plans after a course on a soft power visa in Thailand?

Hi everyone!

I'm applying through HCMC on a soft power visa. Just got a request for supporting documents.

All pretty straightforward, except for proof of monthly income, ending with: "Additionally, please describe your plans after completing the course while holding a 5-year visa."

I would naturally go with something along, "if all goes well I would like to enroll in an advanced program" but I'm wondering if there are any red flags I'm missing.

Had anyone been asked that, and if so, what would be a proper answer?

Thanks in Advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is applying for a soft power visa through HCMC and faces a request for additional documents, specifically asking for proof of monthly income and a description of future plans after the course. Responses suggest elaborating on intentions post-course, such as enrolling in further studies or exploring Thai culture. There are also concerns regarding the legitimacy of the visa and potential rejection due to perceived misuse, emphasizing the need for a clear long-term plan in the application.

Ho Chi Minh is rejecting DTV applicants in big numbers recently. I would recommend you Taiwan

Why are many being rejected from HCM?

I think your initial thoughts reply will be acceptable. You can even elaborate a bit more with exploring other parts of Thailand after.

Recently had this with a client of mine I outlined their plans for immersion in Thai culture and explained their financial perspective. Provide them what your plans are.

Also what type of soft power are you planning to do?

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want further explanation.

I think it becomes more and more known that there is a group of applicants that think that as soon as they got approved for the visa all requirements end and they can just stay in the country for 5 years.

DTV is not meant for continuous stay, only for periods you do remote work or attend soft power activities.

It looks like they now want to make aware applicants of this.

The only correct answer is to tell your plans, how should we know what your plans are.

You can explain what you want to do after the current activity ends, and when you don't have plans for that period, you don't need a visa for that period.

That is a new one. Asking intentions after the initial course. No idea about best response except maybe what you suggested. Book further courses.

I had the same thing. I wrote to them that I wanted to go home every now and then to see friends and family, but that the best Muay Thai schools are in Thailand, so I always wanted to come back. And that, in addition to Muay Thai, I also wanted to travel around this beautiful country a bit, and so on. Always what they wanted to hear: positive things about Thailand and how I love the country and the culture, etc. I also wrote that I wanted to participate in Muay Thai tournaments back home, exporting culture.. 😅

It is in line with your recent findings at the recent nomad events you attended. Tokyo embassy ask similar questions.

If Embassies are asking then maybe Immigration will ask at entry points. They are the official gatekeepers after all. Easy enough to ask for booked courses and paid invoices?

@Greg *******
They could ask on arrival.

@Andi **********
Exactly. They do not have to ask for the full initial application pack. They could ask a couple of things to prove people still qualify for the Visa. 1) Money 2) ongoing activity either workaytion of soft power. It is not all or nothing.

@Greg *******
it would be just brief questions, the PM has said immigration must process arrivals faster.

Evactly. Nobody is going oi have to orifice full details at the booth or even if taken to an office for more questions.

May I know what is your passport?

Did you apply with a 6 -12 month course? Staying 5 years on a short course is what is being looked at. They may give you a METV.

I applied with a 6 months muai thai course

Anonymous participant Ok,so you going to have to convince them of a long term plan. Soft Power is the most misused option and it seems they are no longer easily giving a DTV without proof of a long term plan
