What should I do about my Non-ED visa if my internship ends before I travel abroad from Thailand?

Hi everyone,

I am a currently in Thailand on a Non-ED visa sponsored by an internship program.

I plan to travel to go out of the country for one week (June 21–27) and then return to Thailand for a few days before flying back to the U.S. My internship company informed me that because I will be stopping my internship earlier than expected, they may need to notify the relevant authorities or embassy. This made me concerned that my Non-ED status could be affected while I am abroad.

I am trying to understand what my best option is. If I obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand, will I still be able to return under my current Non-ED visa even if my internship has ended or been reported as terminated? Or would I need to apply for a tourist visa/e-Visa before returning to Thailand?

Has anyone been in a similar situation with a Non-ED visa tied to an internship or educational program? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Answer summary
The user is concerned about the implications of ending their Non-ED visa sponsored by an internship program before traveling abroad. They seek clarity on whether obtaining a re-entry permit allows them to return to Thailand under the current visa, despite the internship's early termination, or if they need to apply for a new tourist visa. Community members advise that if the visa is canceled, re-entry on that visa is not possible, and if the visa conditions change due to the internship's termination, the user may need to address their visa status with the local immigration office.

Lets start at the beginning.

IF you are in Thailand using the Single Entry Non Immigrant ED visa and got 90 days of stay, you visa is used and invalid. IF you leave your entry stamp will be void.

IF you visited the local Immigation Office and got a NEW stamp with the text "Extension of Stay permitted up to xx/xxx/xxxx" YOU have to visit Immigration again to cancel this stay as the conditions change, you stop going to school to do the internship.

IT is YOUR responsibility, it is YOUR passport, the school or employer can NOT change stamps in YOUR passport

Your options depends on what is stamped in your passport.

If the visa is cancelled, you cannot return on it even with a re-entry permit. However, the good news is you should be able to enter normally on a visa exempt with a USA passport.

So even if my internship informs the authorities that I’m stopping this week that wouldn’t terminate my visa status?
