First time posting. Thank you for approving me. It's a strong possibility my husband and I will be moving to Thailand within a year or 2. He's a native. I'm trying to research all I can.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post is from an expat researching a possible move to Thailand with her Thai husband. She seeks general advice, particularly regarding living arrangements and immigration matters. Community members have offered insights about residency opportunities for spouses of Thai nationals, the importance of understanding cultural differences, and the potential of residing in both rural and urban areas of Thailand. Advice also includes the significance of learning Thai if living outside foreigner communities and suggestions for additional research resources.

One big question are you city folks or country folk? Does your husband have family here?

Thailand is a great country with great people. However, most of what you see in the news is either Bangkok, tourist cities (phuket, pattaya), or politics.

If you want to do good research find some of the less popular places to review.

I have to imagine it is a lot different to live in Rural Thailand (known as Isan) then it is to live in cities full of Foreigners.

To that end.. I speak no Thai and find it fun to go visit near by villages, but then I go back to Pattaya where English is good enough. If you are no going to live in a foreigner community you will want to learn Thai.

What are you asking about getting married in Thailand?

If you are married to a Thai national, females have a quite fast track to Thai permanent residency and citizenship. Even after 3 years in Thai, become a Thai citizen. Research the road to that situation.

By native I assume you mean he's a Thai national, with Thai passport and Thai ID?
