TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, the minimum age requirement for a retirement visa is 50 years. Therefore, a 42-year-old looking for retirement options may consider alternatives like the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), which can last up to 5 years. Another option is the LTR (Long-Term Resident) or the Elite Privilege Visa, which are also available but have specific financial requirements. It's possible to apply for other visa categories like an education visa or consider a marriage visa if applicable. Additionally, seeking advice from an immigration agent can provide tailored solutions based on individual circumstances.
It used to be possible to get a retirement visa, under 50, if on medical grounds, from outside Thailand, but it couldn't be extended, so not ideal... I did it once, then went for the Elite visa
Get a DTV, and figure out the last 3 years when you get that far.

DTV for 5 years on soft power but you will still need to work something out for the last 3 years to get you to 50, you can get the platinum privilege (10 years 1.5m baht unless its changed) or LTR (however requirements are steep for the LTR)
