TLDR : Answer Summary
Currently, the minimum age for a retirement visa in Thailand is 50 years. For someone aged 42 with a full pension, the available options include applying for a digital nomad visa (DTV), which is popular among expats and can provide a 5-year stay. Alternatively, options such as the LTR (Long Term Resident) Wealthy Global Citizen Visa or the Privilege (Elite) visa may be considered, although both have specific requirements.

You can marry a Thai woman. She will help you 'retire' from all your assets very quickly!

It used to be possible to get a retirement visa, under 50, if on medical grounds, from outside Thailand, but it couldn't be extended, so not ideal... I did it once, then went for the Elite visa
Get a DTV, and figure out the last 3 years when you get that far.

DTV for 5 years on soft power but you will still need to work something out for the last 3 years to get you to 50, you can get the platinum privilege (10 years 1.5m baht unless its changed) or LTR (however requirements are steep for the LTR)
