TLDR : Answer Summary
When considering a 6-month membership at a Muay Thai gym, it is essential to ask for specific proof to avoid potential scams. Key suggestions from the community include requesting references or reading genuine reviews from prior clients. Some users recommend trying the gym for a week first to gauge the quality and legitimacy before committing to a long-term payment. Additionally, clarify the exact documents the gym offers, particularly if you need a Training Acceptance Letter for a DTV Visa, as some gyms may not fully understand the requirements or may provide inadequate documentation. Keep in mind, gym owners express their concerns about protecting sensitive information from potential scammers, which may affect what they are willing to show prospective members.

Why would you pay 6 months in advance crazy

I would ask them to list specifically what exact documents they will provide for a start. That will filter out half the ppl who have no real idea what they are doing and are just telling you what you want to hear. For example I contacted probably the 2nd largest muay thai school in phuket and asked if they can do docs FOR DTV VISA and how much. They casually replied yes i just need to buy a package. Now a month later I emailed them again asking them to be specific. The answer as follows highlights the fact they have no idea what a DTV even is: Greetings from *****

Regarding your inquiry, it is only training acceptance letter. It does not support document for long stay Visa. And this is not for student visa type application. Because we are only gym.

**Please note that**

(This letter is not for Muay Thai education Visa)

That's a good question, references I guess. I'm on the other side of the fence as a gym owner. We are plagued with dodgy customers trying to extract our documents without paying. So we don't like to show them our licenses etc before they pay coz they can be cloned. We also have to stamp our documents to avoid cloning.

But I guess customers are worried about scams too. Fair point

do you think the gym can provide some sort of biz registration document?
Derry *********
@Achanster *****
they should be Ltd company and should include Ltd company certification in documents pack

Along with sports authority license, ministry of education cert, board of boxing sport A License

Those are not always required but if you have it covers all bases

You might want to say where in Thailand you want to train.

Anyone knows where I can get DTV from studying Thai in Bangkok or Pattaya?

@Jonathan ******
That's the answer I've been looking for as well. Out of all the possible activities in Thailand I'd rather do Thai language. Some people have successfully done it so it CAN be done but I'd also like to know what schools can help out with the DTV.
Jonathan *******
@Al**
I just found out that most of the language courses take from 3 to 14 months, so it is better to take the Ed Visa which covers a year plus rather than DTV which only covers 180 days. Unless we don’t mind travelling back and forth, it is worth it because it covers 5 years! So I am for DTV rather than Ed Visa.

@Jonathan ******
DTV is way better, 5 years multiple entries. Some people get their DTV with 1 or 3 months Muay Thai classes, or 1 dentist visit, it's even possible with going to concerts lol idk why the government didn't focus more on people taking 1+ years of learning Thai lol. To me it makes sense if a foreigner wants to learn the language it makes it easier to adapt and stay in Thailand for good.
Jonathan *******
@Al**
I agree with you. I prefer the 5 years DTV.
James ********
@Jonathan ******
not possible as the Ed Visa is available to study Thai language.
Jonathan *******
Scott Edwards not really, a lot of scam companies out there so I prefer a trusted one that someone here has experienced.
