the new rukes "police clearance certificate " has anyone ran into issues with a caution on their file from years ago ?
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the potential implications of having a police caution on one's record when applying for a visa in Thailand. Participants emphasize the importance of knowing whether a caution will show up on police checks, particularly the UK ACRO and CRB checks. There are mixed opinions on how cautions are treated, with some stating that they remain visible until spent, while others argue that minor cautions may not affect visa applications as immigration authorities focus more on serious offenses. The conversation reminds potential applicants to be transparent and prepared, as visa processes require adherence to strict rules in Thailand.

I have a couple of things from 45 years ago, they don't appear on a standard db's but do show on an enhanced db's. The acro cert is accompanied by a separate list of everything, but stepped down thins don't show on the actual certificate. Just that there have been things in the past. I guess the consulate may request the details sheet too... hoping 45 years is long enough ago, it was for my current position that requires enhans3d db's for working with children and vulnerable adults

You can try applying and let us know what happened. After all the only thing you can loose is the application fee

OP
It was a caution over 27 years ago in the uk …. Jesus some of the comments “Thailand doesn’t want criminals “

a misunderstanding that ended in a caution, nothing serious it was petty really just like some of the comments 😅 I’ll update once I receive the ACRO - thanks to those trying to offer genuine advice 👌

As a former PSR now living in Thailand, I don't think moving to Thailand is the brightest idea if you have propensity for criminality.

Thailand is not a place for a rule breakers. You have to do things by the book here.

May seem harsh but I am just giving objectivity advice.

sorry Richard i think your going way over the top a caution from 27 years ago - and pristine since then - and will be doing EVERYTHING by the book so yes, very harsh for you to assume

On a UK CRB enhanced check a caution will show for the period until it's spent. On a standard CRB check cautions dont show

Anonymous participant, under step-down rules, I believe they are not shown after 6 years. Your record is not deleted until you reach 100 years old. Judging from comments on other groups that require a police check, a caution would not stop you from getting the visa. They're more interested in serious offences.

A caution does show up on a full cable check and acro because in order to receive the caution you have to admit to the offence and the only reason they off you it in the first place is because they dont have enough evidence to take you to court but they still want you to admit to the offence so its recorded against you trust as I was an absolute little tearaway as a kid right up till I was 20 years old and ive never been in trouble since! (Now 45)

old minor cautions can be stepped down and no longer have their details shown on a standard ACRO Police Certificate

Would an ACRO show offences that were considered spent under Rehabilitation of Offenders act?

@Greg *******
, it all depends on what the check is for. If you were applying for a standard job, then under the RoOA you do not have to mention spent convictions, but if you were applying to work with children, then you have to mention all convictions. The step-down rules apply to a Police Certificate, but a CRB should show convictions relevant to the job application.

Anonymous participant I saw the mention of stepping down. How does that work compared to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act?

it does say that on the site .but a lot of the lads had cautions and they come back as no history.

CharmingGiraffe9403 OK good to know. I looked to see how it compared to spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

What does a caution even mean? Asking for a friend.

If you haven’t been convicted or charged with anything there shouldn’t be any record

Anonymous participant 352 In the UK the police can issue a caution rather than you going to court. You have to agree to it ie basically accept guilt. These do appear on the ACRO unless spent due to step down.
