I am concerned that Thailand might require that I be a citizen or resident of the country that I apply for the Non O Immigrant Retirement 90 Day Visa. This is the visa I apply for online. I was going to apply for this visa in Vietnam while on a tourist visa?

Is it OK to do this or do I have to return to Canada in order to apply for this visa online. It is inconvenient and expensive to fly back to Canada to apply for this visa online and then to Thailand.

Can someone please help with this, because I am really worried about it. Thanks.
Answer summary
The original poster is concerned about whether they can apply for the Non O Immigrant Retirement 90 Day Visa from Vietnam while on a tourist visa. Community members reassured them that it is indeed possible to apply for this visa from Vietnam, confirming that both the Thai embassy in Hanoi and the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City accept applications from non-residents. Several users shared their experiences and recommended processing the application in nearby countries like Laos or Malaysia, emphasizing that as long as the application is made outside of Thailand, it should not be an issue. Additionally, they mentioned that having the necessary funds and documentation is essential for a successful application.

It's simply not needed unless you are trying to cheat the system.

Raymond G. Bush I have never paid a "service" or a visa agent in the 22 years I have been coming to Thailand and having a house here for twenty years now. It's pretty straight forward and not very difficult if you actually qualify and have the funds to qualify.

Dave Owen if you have a Thai bank account you can change from a tourist or tourist exempt entry to a non immigrant O based on retirement for ฿2,000 at your local immigration office. I have done it twice. About the same paperwork as a one year extension of permission to stay in the Kingdom but in duplicate and the money just has to be there on the day you apply. Bank statement and letter dated the date you apply as well. Without a Thai account, you are correct.

I went to Malaysia and applied for my non-o retirement visa using Kuala Lumpur. It was issued within 3 working days. Paperwork was in order though. Extra they asked for was copy of boarding pass from Thailand and full copy of passport.

I already told you twice on this topic. You CAN definitely apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa in Vietnam, while being in their country as a tourist. Open the website of the ROYAL THAI embassy in Hanoi or of the CONSULATE in Ho Chi Minh and CHECK their requirements

Steven Kureiji You don't need a agency if you have the money required.

Steven Kureiji there is a big difference between applying for a visa OUTSIDE of Thailand, or applying for an extension INSIDE Thailand. If you want to sound SMART, then please give him more information. Like telling him which agent can take over an application in Vietnam - OUTSIDE of Thailand

Embassies will say if they do not accept applications from non-residents. Both the embassy and consulate in Vietnam accept visa applications from non Vietnamese-residents.

For a Non-O ? I thought those had to come from someone's home country or where they were a resident.

Alan Rothwell no, that is only the non-OA. They can apply for the 90day non-O from Vietnam.
