Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has applied for their DTV via the Thai Royal Embassy in South Africa? What has your experience been like, specifically what has your timeline looked like?
Before applying I emailed to ask some questions and they said it takes about 10 working days but they recommended applying a month in advance. I flew back to Namibia solely for this application, and submitted it directly. I’m around the 2 week submissions mark, not too worried yet but my flight date is fast approaching.
Hence my main question, how long it took you to get your visa approved?

In South Africa office, most DTV cases take about ten working days but many see two to three weeks in busy time. So your two week wait is still normal, many who applied in Pretoria got result around day fifteen to twenty.
You can check status on Thai e visa site daily, and keep your Namibia number active for call. Do not book new flight till visa shows approved, and keep bank proof and work proof ready in case they ask for more docs. If flight is close, send polite email with flight date and application number.
You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.

OPCapableCelery590 during the waiting period, did you leave South Africa and traveled (anywhere other than Thailand)? And were you called in to the embassy or did they ask you to show any kind of proof of your current location?

SteadyArugula2399 nope didn’t leave as per requirements. I wasn’t called in either, just used the time to get organized. They did require me to show proof of current location though and I used a picture of my entry stamp at or tambo and airline ticket back from Zambia

You don’t always have to fly home to do your application by the way, it can be done (for most nationalities) without you being there.
It’s just mission by mission and case by case.
Probably not super helpful now in hindsight BUT depending on your next destination and case particulars you may still be fine leaving Namibz

Thanks for taking the time to respond. With the new rule of only being able to only apply in the country you have residency, I didn’t have much choice. I was in France at the time and emailed the embassy there as I would’ve had to apply from there and they said only South Africa can handle my application (SA handles Southern Africa). I have read through posts in the group where they said that some embassies can ask for proof of location at the time of your application. The risks were a bit high hence the flight back home. The challenge now is to wait, but I was wondering since the application is fully online, no calls to come into the embassy physically, if I could leave (already planned trip before Thailand) before I get my feedback and if there is any way of them knowing I wasn’t in Namibia anymoreRyan ******************

Also contacted the Thai embassy in Pretoria to answer a few questions. So here's some info for interests sake.They confirmed that the BHT

0 only had to be in an account for 1 month. Also that any bank account could be used, not only SA banks. We specifically asked about a wise account. They said all family members could apply on the same *****

OPParticipant anonyme 254 Best of luck! In my initial emails with them they responded and said 10 working days (applying as a dependent-spouse as my husband already holds a DTV for work). So I had a ticket booked for 4 weeks out from the date of application. Just worried about the time frame now. They are quite responsive if you email them which is great, but they can’t give any updates while it’s being processed, leaving you in a bit of a limbo.

Applied for myself, 10 working days later approved and issued. Applied a day later for wife and 3 kids. Problem raised on day 7 for my oldest son being 19. Had to issue a letter of sponsor. All 4 visas issued on working day 11.

OPHeartyTurtle7419 Thus far it’s been mixed based on the replies here. Some 6 weeks, some less than 11 days. I’m at 13 days now. It could also depend on the season, high demand travel season might take longer. I’ll update you once I get an update on my end

it took me almost 6 weeks. Its worth the wait to be able to stay in Thailand for 5 years. Waiting 6 weeks felt like nothing LOL

I applied on September 10. I stayed in South Africa for the whole visa processing time. I was not asked for further documentation or an interviewed. My application went from Pending Document Check to Pending approval on the third week after submisson then got approved almost 3 weeks after.
