TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience of mailing their non-OA multi-entry visa application to the LA Thai Consulate, noting that their passport with the new visa arrived within 11 days. Other commenters inquired about the processing time for their own applications, and asked for details regarding the costs associated with obtaining the visa, as well as requirements like a doctor's check, police clearance, and bank account balance.

Loretta Berry I was just in LA in April and got a new passport and an O-A went very smooth I was told for the Dr certificate if the office has a stamp no notary required as the bank statement just need it on the banks letter head and then he told me next time just mail it from Vegas and I’d save a lot of money really great guy and the rest of the staff were great also they made extra copies of my flight as I only had one no charge Good Luck

thank you...I'm headed back to the US for a few months...was wanting to come back about December...I've been in and out of Chiang Mai traveling since may 2018 so thinking about getting something in the US before heading back because of all the stamps I already have

In the US, a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A visa costs 200US dollars.

Can I ask how it went with the doctor, police check and bank account balance(Thai or US)? Was the process costly in the states?

At this time there has been NO new information about the mandatory health insurance that the thai cabinet passed for O-A visas. It WAS passed by the government but nothing has come out as to when it will be implemented or how it will be done.
Teresa ***********
When I called the Thai Embassy in Australia last week they told me that insurance is not required when applying there for O-A visa.

there has been NOT a peep from the thai powerz-that-b about the mandatory insurance requirement for people getting O-A visas

The last news that was out was that it would be implemented in July some time. BUT no new news.

And yet another question is will the health insurance be required by next month when I apply? Rhetorical I know as no one does! Just rethinking the O-A visa altogether and going for an ed.

If was to go back for an O-A visa I would just get one here in case I had problems in the US. It probably costs next to nothing and there is nothing wrong with having too much documentation. Good idea.

There are reports of people successfully using the medical certificate signed by a thai doctor while they were here in thailand BEFORE they went back to get the O-A visa in their country. Whether the consulate you use for the O-A visa will do that (and whether you're here before you go back to get the O-A) is another story :)

That was my thought. Go back to my old doctor and pay cash. Thanks.

I'm a cash customer with my doctor in the US. No insurance. Office visit yearly runs about $130.

I’m curious about that question too. I no longer have US insurance. I wouldn’t know how to go about getting the medical certificate signed.

Thank you. I'm in a bit of a different situation as I don't have a doctor in the states, and from what the website says there are 4 copies of each that need to be notarized. Just was wondering how smooth that all would go.

Kelly Denise Wyatt I use my doctor - just drop the form off, he signs and the staff mails it back to me at no charge. $12 for the notarized police check. I go to my US bank and have a staff member complete and sign a letter on bank letterhead showing my account balances as of that date - no charge.

Good to hear coz I mailed mine to Chicago on the 7th and I’m still waiting with fingers and toes crossed.
