For whom it may concern: I did my annual (retirement) extension at Chiang Mai immigration yesterday. Arrived at 7:30 and got cue number 11. Number was called at about 9:30 and my stamped passport was returned at 10:30. I used the bank method and was not informed about any new rules or minimal balance to be kept for the next months/year. I made sure that in the past 3 months the balance wasn’t under 800K. All in all a painless process and quite a step up from the experience in the past years. Btw my wife did her extension as dependent at the same time and the little over 800K in my account sufficed for that one as well.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience of renewing a retirement visa extension in Chiang Mai, mentioning that the process went smoothly, taking about three hours in total. They used the bank method to meet the financial requirements and confirmed that their bank balance was maintained above 800,000 THB in the past three months. The user also noted that their wife was able to renew her dependent visa based on the same bank account, which raised discussions about financial requirements for dependents in Chiang Mai. Other commenters expressed hope for a similar straightforward process for their own extensions in other locations like Hua Hin and Pattaya.

Thanks, great info. I hope, it will be the same easy process for my parents in Hua Hin.

Thank you for your update.

So that confirms that in Chiang Mai two married foreigners CAN indeed have one meet the financial requirements for an extension based on retirement and their spouse to show NO proof of funds and get a "trailing spouse" extension piggy backed. (y)

There were reports that chiang mai was making both people show 800K baht to get separate extensions..

this is the 5th time we do this. First time my wife was still under 50 but for the last 3 times she is over 50. Maybe they “grandfather” running extensions and have more strict rules for new ones?
