What is the experience of entering Thailand with a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) for UK passport holders?

Just came through BKK on the DTV. UK passport and DTV was issued in London last November. Issued under remote work as I work for a UK company. This was my 10th DTV stamp and I’ve never been asked for proof of anything on entry. I have all the documents I used to apply in a folder on my laptop just incase but haven’t ever had anything more than a smile, stamp and thank you.

Just cos I know there have been mixed reports lately!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post shares the author's positive experience entering Thailand on a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) with a UK passport, noting that they were not asked for additional proof during their 10th entry. The comments hint at concerns that certain types of DTV holders may face scrutiny, while stressing that those with remote work visas are less likely to be questioned.

They aren’t likely to target workcation DTV holders as it was a more difficult option to obtain. Some soft option holders might be questioned etc but I doubt they will be refused entry.

They don't know what you applied under unless it's stated on the DTV.

Seems like they are targeting soft power DTV people
Khun ******
They don't know unless it's on the visa.

makes no sense, if they didn't ask any questions then they have no idea if he's softpower or not

Anonymous participant 471 of course they know. They have the information in front of them on their screen!

Are you sure? Reports of CNX asking people as they wanted to enter it in the system. I suspect it is in remarks and not all embassies add it.

well no I am not sure because I cannot see, but I was always led to believe they had the information in front of them. It makes sense that they do but you may be right. Also, you obviously cannot read too much into posts on these groups but the 'observations' that they are targeting soft power feels right based on the posts we see, so there must be some method for them doing that. I am going back to UK for xmas, maybe I will ask them when I come back! If I feel brave enough!

Somebody might know about the actual system but on the DTV issued the "Category" is in remarks rather than an actual category field. After 23 years in corporate IT and validated systems I suspect if there was a field for this they would not use "Remarks". The Immigration Department and MFA did not consult much before the DTV implemented - how much access would MFA have to make changes in an immigration owned system? (I am becoming an IT nerd here but the change control on a system like this would need to be robust)

plus it's not always in Remarks. Some it is, some it's not.

Exactly. If there is no specific field and not always in remarks how does Immigration know the category?

@Gr**
people seem to think there's a hidden field that shows it. But why would some consulates put it in remarks as well if there was a hidden field. I don't think they know from what they have in front of them.

I worked in IT long enough to recognise these exact typeworkarounds. If the DTV had not been rushed by MFA and they had consulted other stakeholders, they might have defined the categories and expanded further. I suspect if there had been consultation, there would be no DTV 🙂 🙂

Some embassy websites have listed them as DTV1 (workcation) DTV2 (soft power) and DTV3 (dependant). I suspect that immigration will see it as something like DTV2 or whatever and may ask them to specify what soft power they’re actually engaged in or they could simply be trying to catch people out on a lie.

Anonymous participant 734 Could be but that would imply a specific field in the system for that. No idea and is the eVisa system same as the immigration system or conencted? This is getting among IT weeds which I was glad to leave 12 years ago lol.

@Greg *******
I don’t know how integrated the eVisa system is but I do know that when people apply for visas, that information is shared with immigration in Thailand.

I’m not sure if it would be a specific field as the visa class could simply be listed as DTV1 or DTV2 for example. I do recall seeing a similar numbering scheme for other visa types as well on some immigration website a number of years ago but the details have eluded me at this time.

@Greg *******
fair enough.....you are bringing back memories of my own working life (business side not IT) and the horrors of change requests and prioritisation arguments with your IT comments! 😀

@Nick ******
I moved out of IT into the business side. Project Management in New Product Development, M&A then covered all areas as a Director of Portfolio Managment and Global Head of PMO. The IT background was very useful as I could see through the same obfusification we used lol

Anonymous participant 471 I assume that they could pull up information about your visa in their computer…
