Has anyone compared the cost which thais pay for covid insurance and what tourists pay. Based on some research I noted Thais pay under 2k bhat for an annual 3M bhat policy. Tourists pay upwards of 20K bhat for an annual 3.2M policy.

Has anyone else noted similar search results.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion highlights significant differences in COVID-19 insurance costs between Thai citizens and tourists. Thai nationals reportedly pay under 2,000 baht for a 3 million baht policy, while tourists face costs upwards of 20,000 baht for annual coverage. The comments suggest that Thais have additional healthcare coverage for COVID-related hospital expenses, which may not be the same for tourists. There are concerns about price gouging where tourists pay more for services compared to locals.

Anytime you compare what a tourist pays for anything, it is going to be much higher than what a Thai pays. Until there is some kind of control with regard to costs for tourists, price gouging will continue to exist. When I first came to Thailand over 15 years ago I chose this country to retire in due to its low cost of living. Now things have changed. Tourists pay more for everything at a highly inflated price. Costs for quarantine and mandatory health insurance chew into the cost of living by quite a bit which makes Thailand a lot more expensive than it used to be to live in. When will this price gouging stop? The answer is never. I came back to the US last March and have been stuck here since then due to Covid-19. I am now having to decide whether to go back where I have invested all of my retirement money for three houses, property, three vehicles, several motorbikes and everything that comes with it. To compound things, I have a Thai wife and eleven year old son. I don't think anyone could foresee all of these increases in the cost of living coming. I know I didn't. It will be curious to see how everything winds up five years from now and where I will be living.

Check which hospitals it covers too. 1 days with Covid in a private hospital here with minimal treatment ie asypmtomatic is close to 20k per day.

Thais are covered for Covid hospital costs anyway. Might have to be field hospital if no symptoms but infected. HiSo will go to private hospitals and pay extra or have own health insurance.
