Tod Daniels would you kindly explain the difference between these two, 'visa exempt' and 'visa waived'? At face value it seems like distinction without any difference.

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Visa exempt means citizens from certain countries can enter Thailand for up to 30 days without a visa, eligible for a 30-day extension. In contrast, a visa waiver, determined by bilateral agreements, allows citizens from specific countries a shorter stay (14, 30, or 90 days) without the possibility of extending their stay.

why don't you just apply for the evisa then you don't need to worry about going to an immigration office and it's actually cheaper GBP 30 for 60 days a 30 days extension costs GBP 45

The visa-exempt scheme is set by the Thai government, those countries are eligible for 30 days entry stamp for free. This stamp is eligible for 30 days tourism extension.

A visa-waiver is set based on a bilateral agreement, those countries are eligible for

/90 days (depending on nationality) entry for free. This stamp is NOT eligible for tourism extension.

Currently, visa-exempt nationalities can stay up to 60 days without a prior visa but with a tourism extension. Visa waiver (30 days) nationalities can stay up to 30 days only.
