TLDR : Answer Summary
The Chong Mek border crossing between Thailand and Laos, located east of Ubon Ratchathani, is currently operating normally, allowing entry and exit with a brief medical check and visa on arrival. The process is reported to be fast and smooth, though it's known primarily among locals and some foreign residents. Historical comments suggest it is less frequented by typical tourists, but still sees a good amount of traffic.

It's actually a pretty big and busy border. Done it a few times Plenty of traffic goes through there and it's very clean, unlike most border towns!

I have been crossing this border a few times, it is used by many foreigners, too. And actually an easy going in-and-out border. The main road from Ubon Ratchathani to Paxxe, pretty busy everyday

It's the tiny border in Ubon Ratchathani that only local isaan-ese foreigners use. It is OUT of the way.. I don't know any "regular" people who use that border crossing.
BUT at this time ALL the lao borders (except for the 3 tiny ones they closed) are fine to bounce out and in at right now..
