Hi, I’m looking to spend 5 months in Thailand over winter as my work is mainly summer only. I have own limited company so pay myself all year round through payroll. I wouldn’t plan to do too much work so not sure I can apply for a DTV and say I’m working remotely. What’s my best options? Multi entry visa? DTV? Or DTV2 soft power visa? Anyone give me some reliable advice? Thanks in advance
Answer summary
The best option for staying in Thailand for 5 months while working remotely is likely the Multi Entry Tourist Visa (METV). This visa allows for multiple entries over a 6-month period, granting a 60-day stay per entry that can be extended by 30 days once at immigration. Comments also clarify that despite changes to regulations regarding visa exemptions, the METV's conditions remain unchanged. Alternatives like the Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) were suggested, but the user expressed uncertainty about qualifying for it. The destination for visa application and potential immigration services were discussed, reinforcing the METV as the simplest choice for an extended stay.

FYI:

👉 No need to spend +600K Baht on a

Thai Privilege visa to avoid long immigration lines❗️

✅ Fast Track Immigration & limousine service costs less than 2k Baht.

Google it.

For all these providers, Google, Facebook, and Reddit reviews find the most competent & reliable. They're all astronomically cheaper than any Thai Privilege visa (even if used for 20 years).

Fast Track providers want you to be a repeat customer. They're motivated to give good service. On the other, after Thai Privilege gets your ˘ payment, they have no incentive to treat you well (and it shows).

*** The Multi Entry Tourist Visa is valid for 6 months, to be used for an unlimited number of entries during this period. The 6-month validity begins on the day the visa is issued.

Each time you enter the country you receive a 60-day stay permit, which can be extended by 30 more days, only once, at immigration for 1900 THB.

Before the 60 days or 90 days stay permits expire, you have to leave the country, and either short by a border bounce, or longer by staying in the neighboring country for a short holiday, re-enter Thailand and activate a new 60-days stay permit

Please do not confuse this: the duration of the stay permit is not the same as the duration of the visa validity.

If you leave and re-enter as close as possible before the 6-months visa validity expires, you will receive a 60-days stay permit stamp for the last time. This brings the total possible stay to almost 8 months.

You can theoretically get another 30-days extension on immigration, which brings the total stay to almost 9 months

You can only apply for and receive the 6-month multi-entry tourist visa in the country of your residence

A 60-day single entry tourist visa, however, can be obtained at any Thai diplomatic mission around the world

If you apply for a visa in your country using the e-visa system, don't be surprised if the day of your departure is getting closer and you haven't been issued a visa, yet

The embassies and consulates usually try to issue the visa as close as possible to your departure date so you don’t lose too many days of the 6-months visa validity

Nongnuch Kamdee thanks, confirms a lot . They are changing the 60 on arrival visa back to 30 I hear this doesn’t mean the multi entry visa might be reduced to 30 days I assume? As it always been 60 days? Thanks

Lee Wigglesworth no, what they are reducing is not a visa, it is visa exempt so no visas are affected

Lee Wigglesworth there are no "60-days on-arrival". You must draw a difference between a Visa-on-Arrival (which is 15 days), the admitted stay permit for a Visa Exemption (which is 60 days right now and will be reduced to 30 days) and the entry on a valid Visa. Entries on valid single or multiple entry Tourist Visas and Non-Imm visa classes remain unchanged

Lee Wigglesworth

Simplest for 6 month travel

( you can actually get more than 6 months )

Apply online

At the Thai embassy website

You still have to go to immigration to extend before 60 days is completed & before 90 days is completed you need to leave Thailand & re enter
