Hi folks first post here. Been to Thailand a few times and would love to spend 6 months to a year there. Any ideas what would be the best visa to go for for a year? Wouldn’t intend to work there just a holiday

TLDR : Answer Summary
For a year-long stay in Thailand without working, the Special Tourist Visa (STV) allows up to 270 days through multiple extensions. Alternatively, if you're over 50, you can apply for a NON-O-A Retirement Visa, which permits stays of one year with the possibility of extension upon re-entry. Border runs for visa exemptions are no longer reliable due to current regulations, and travelers are advised to secure a visa for extended stays.

comming from ozz , just enter visa exempt ,and cross a border every 60 days .no need for a visa , if you want to travel .

You need a Visa... The days of border runs is well and truly over. Where can you cross and get back ? Certainly not Malaysia / Cambodia or Myanmar....conditions are different now. He is looking for sound advice - the correct advice is to suggest a visa type - ie Retirement Non O or Tourist
I do not think this plan will work anymore - need a visa
