I’ve made the decision to chase my dream of a happier life starting in Thailand. I will be spending the rest of the year preparing to leave and eventually leaving a high paying corporate job.

This thread has been an incredible help and I plan on getting my DTV to help make this happen.

Knowing my plan, If there was one piece of advice you could give me for this journey, what would it be ?

The community responses include suggestions to secure a DTV visa before making any major decisions, emphasizing the importance of a stable online income, and advising on careful preparation for visa applications. Go for it life is short and everything is so unpredictable these days, coming here with a stable online income is important and takes the stress off, I’ve been here a year now with my wife moving from Australia and it’s been a great change from the rat race, I am able to earn the same amount here as I did back home through my own business but exit tax residency so there’s that cherry on top too. Depending on your lifestyle Thailand can be cheap or as expensive as you want it to be, but keep in mind there’s still expenses to pay for a comfortable lifestyle.

When you say "exit tax residency", you mean the ones of your own country? You will acquire tax residency here automatically when staying over 180 days per calendar year.

Anonymous participant 869 yes being a tax resident here is far better than my home country, you can apply DTAs for the first year where you have already paid tax, so it’s essentially 0 and the following years I will declare remittances as savings from pre January 2024 from my statement total for anything I owe on what I’ve remitted
