What experiences have expats had entering Thailand on a DTV visa after 1.5-2 years?

No problems for me and coming up to two years.

I just did my first re entry in Chiang Mai from the USA and I was pulled aside and questioned before getting stamped entry. It’s pretty nerve racking.

Was required to get an exit flight as I didn’t have payslips for my job. First time after almost 3 years that I’ve been questioned, but it was Phuket. The officer issued a form to fill in and told me all DTV holders will have to fill in and either prove with payslips or enrollment or buy exit flights.

Sadly not scaremongering.

Didn’t feel like a random check but maybe it was.

2 years, no issues.

Dress smart casual at min goes a loooong way to avoid any issues. Or maybe simplified, dont look shabby, dont arrive in slippers and shorts.

And obviously keep the 20k b cash and documentation easy at hand

no one has had a DTV for 2 years yet :O
