I want to extend my visa, have been here almost 2 months, just wondering if I need to bring a rental contract or so...

Or is just my passport enough?

Also, I am not sure if my landlord ever registered my residence with the govt, and is that a problem?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your tourist visa in Thailand, you will need to provide several documents: an application form (available at the Immigration Office), a passport photo, copies of your passport's ID page, visa page, admitted to stay stamp, and TM6 departure card, all signed by you. The extension fee is 1,900 THB. It is also essential to check if your landlord registered your residence with the government, as it might be required for the extension process.

The problem is that we need to know what kind or Visa you like to extend and where you like to go to the Immigration Office.
