TLDR : Answer Summary
If one parent has passed away, you need to obtain a death certificate confirmed by a lawyer to travel with the child. Additional legal documentation may be required if the other parent resides in another country, such as a signed letter from an attorney.

I don’t think this is a question. I think it’s a statement. He’s giving out information.

My son’s father lives in the U.S. So he has to get a letter signed by an attorney in the states in order for me to be able to leave Bangkok with my son?

@Frozan ******
have you officially adopted your son?
John **********
I'm confused by the double use of father. Are you on the kids birth certificate? Do you have an official agreement with the ex? Has the ex's new partner adopted him?

I am on his birth certificate. We don’t have an official agreement for him to travel with me. I have his agreement, but it’s not a legal one. No, his partner has not adopted my son.

I'm even more confused now. Perhaps you should clarify relationships. Where is the mother of your son?

Frozan is not the father but is a parent. I’ll let you figure out where the mother is. 🙂.

he is the father. He's on the birth certificate. The question is who else is on the birth certificate.

no I have not 😕 I share custody with my ex

Then you need a permission letter from your ex, whom you share custody with. Have them sign it in front of a notary and email or fax a copy to you.

Sorted.

Only slightly more complicated than the permission slip required to send your little schnookums on a school trip to the zoo.
