Hi. I have a non o retirement visa and do not want to pay an agent yearly. My husband is also over 70 yrs and will probably get a tourist visa from the embassy in LA before we leave. Does anyone know how long it will take to post the new 30 day rule in the Royal gazette? Should we just plan on a 30 day with 30 day extension? We arrive August 18, will leave the country by October 18, return 10 days later and the leave again November 24 for at least 10 days and then return again before we leave for home approximately December 20. That will be three entries.

Will we only need marriage certificate copy, photo, passport copy, bank statements for three months, copy of my Non O to upload online? We’ve tried it and server is down so we think we may have to make appointment and drive to LA in July when we return from Europe. It looks like I will deposit 800k to skip need of an agent. Any thoughts will be helpful.
Answer summary
The user has a Non-O retirement visa and is considering visa options for her husband, who is likely to get a tourist visa. They are seeking advice on the implications of the new 30-day rule, the processing of a multiple entry tourist visa (METV), and the necessary documents for their travel plans. Several comments suggest that the husband should apply for an METV instead of relying on visa exemption for multiple entries, as the rules may not accommodate their travel schedule. Additionally, there's confusion about the current status of visa regulations and the necessity of having funds seasoned in a Thai bank account for visa extensions.

The husband should get the METV, since he'll be going in and out of the country multiple times. He'll have problems trying to do that on visa exemption.

Thai counsellate in LA does not do in person visas. only E visas. Your trying to game the tourist visa exempt stays. just get a 6 months METV.

No one knows when the rules for visa exempt entry will actually change. There are no changes to any of the visas they are not affected, only the visa exempt program is changing. For now visa exempt entry is still 60 days with an additional 30 day extension option.

That sounds stressful. I hope the new rules are announced soon so you can plan with confidence. Wishing you and your husband a smooth visa process and safe travels!

Safest thing would be to get the SETV which will give you 60 days. The Tourist visa is not changing.

But, your dates are more than 60 days so perhaps change your plans.

The non O is useable only once. So, it’s good for your first entry then after that you will need another option.

Ralph Tyson You should read what she wrote. . . . she already has a 1-year extension of stay, not a 90-days Non-O visa. She however already violated against the rules for the upkeep of the deposit, because the agent fronted the money and, like usual, took it out of her account after 10 minutes

This is very confusing so I'll try and take it step by step

1. You have a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement? You will apply for a 12 month extension of stay on your first trip to Thailand by depositing the required funds in a Thai bank?

The problem here is your not going to be in Thailand long enough to allow the funds to season for the required 2 months in order to apply for the 12 month extension of stay. A solution would be to apply for another 90 day Non-O visa after you leave the 1st time then apply for the extension of stay when you return along with a re-entry permit.

2. Nobody knows when the visa exempt change will kick in but as your husband will have a tourist visa it won't affect him on his 1st entry. However without an appropriate visa your husband may have a problem entering for the 3rd time. He should get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) which is good for 6 months from the date it is issued, so don't apply for it too early.

3. You seem to be under the impression that just because YOU will have a visa/extension based on retirement your husband can just come along by showing your marriage certificate etc. This is NOT the case. He will need his own visa. In fact you just be better both getting an METV in the first instance and if you both want to move to live in Thailand at a later date both getting Non-O visas based on retirement followed by 12 month extensions

My non o is good until Feb 2027, the agent got me a 15 month with multiple entry. If we put money in now it will be seasoned for 6 months before I would apply for my 12 month. We probably will not move there as we have a house in San Diego. I think I will just need a TDAC and then fill out TM 30 form online, when we arrive , Or just go to Immigration office in Pattaya.

OK so you don't have a visa, you have an extension of stay with a multiple re-entry permit so you can come and go as you want until the expiry date of your extension. But your husband doesn't have anything so he is in a different situation, the fact you are married makes no difference, he should get a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) otherwise he risks being denied entry on his 3rd visit

Linda Telge keeping things simple. Your multiple entry until Feb 2027 means you are ok until then. As others mention. You used an agent and you don’t have 800k in thai bank already so you don’t qualify for next extension. The agents do something dodgy and to extend next time they need to do same dodgy business.

Your English explanations are confusing so I can imagine dealing with Thai people will be hard for you and perhaps you should stick with an agent.

GreyElephant🐘I plan on visiting a Thai immigration lawyer when we arrive because I do not want to use an agent again. After December we won’t come back until September 2027. By that time the 800k will be in for 12 months.

Linda Telge so you do not have a visa, you have a 1-year extension of stay. You will NOT be able to apply for the next 1-year extension of stay by yourself, because you have already violated against the rules for the upkeep of the 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account, as they need to remain in your account for 3 months after you got issued the 12-months extension. Your agent removed the money after 10 minutes, and this puts you technically into an "overstay". You placing your own funds for a six-months seasoning does NOT change anything. You are technically in "overstay" and will need the same agent, again, by next year. Your husband should get a multi entrytourist visa, as his plan doing all these three entries by a visa-exemption, will NOT work. He won't get a 30 days extension for the second visa-exempt entry, he would only be granted a 7-days extension, and the third attempt of entry will be denied

as I understand it the change is agreed but it was then sent to some committee or other for further consideration of consolidation of other visa types etc so I guess it may be waiting for that. There was an update for Non-B visas and retirement visas published in the Royal Gazette the other day (but didn't appear to change much if anything)

make much sense… ready for what exactly? apparently the law change is already agreed on. what is the reason for the wait?
