Thank you to those who responded to my previous post, some very helpful information.

I have since found out that it is actually possible to get a DTV2 visa for medical treatment.

I am currently waiting for surgery for recurrent slipped disc in the UK, and was considering having the surgery in Thailand to avoid wait times, so this now seems to be a great opportunity for me to get the visa.

I will be applying through the London Embassy.

Has anybody else here gone through this process? Any useful information welcome 😊

I helped my friend get his DTV for medical treatments. I applied for him in Vientiane, Laos and he got it in 5 days.

The important thing is that you need to have a treatment plan with recurring doctors visits that lasts over 6-12 months for it to make sense to get the DTV.

In any other case, you might just get a multiple entry tourist visa. Of it's just for one single operation and a check up later, that won't get you a DTV either.

Can I ask why you don’t sign up for, say, a soft-skills course and then apply that way? There’s way less documentation, and all they really need to see is your savings. The methods you’re describing sound very document-heavy. While it’s not impossible, there’s a lot more scrutiny involved.

There is no DTV2 it’s just one visa with different qualification routes

KnowledgeableRaccoon5198 According to MFA there is DTV1, DTV2 and DTV3.

I think MFA should know better, even when somebody names himself KnowledgeableRaccoon5198.

Never seen one of these issued without in-person evaluation and a treatment plan from a Thai medical professional. I would also expect that to obtain this, a prepayment on the treatment would be logical.

This is probably not the easy form ticking exercise you seem to assume. Many people seem to under appreciate the value of a 5 year visa and how much work things used to take.

First you need to find an institution that will provide you with the paperwork. You'll somehow need to get a consultation with the doctor. You will need a diagnosis and treatment plan/follow up lasting at least 6 months with appropriate appointments booked.

are you sure all of this is necessary? Have you been through the process?

I went through the soft power medical scheme process. Yes it's necessary if you want the Visa.

it is pretty much as he says it is. If it is less than six months, they might issue an METV instead.

You'll need a treatment plan from a recognised medical professional at a legitimate medical facility in Thailand. That normally means they first have to examine you

from what I've read, you only need to have the appointment consultation booked, and scans etc can be reviewed before travelling. I'm not sure how it would work going to Thailand to get the examination first, seems like that's the wrong way round?

if they are happy to provide you with a treatment plan solely from the scans then I guess that would be OK, but I'd be surprised if they will. An appointment for a consultation is not going to cut it these days, things have tightened up

you physically need to meet with the Thai doctor so you can be evaluated, and the surgery, and recovery plan can be mapped out. If you don't follow this you can be issued a medical 30 day visa, that can be extended with the doctor's note that you are unfit to fly. A surgery, which lots of people come to Thailand for, is not considered needing long term recurring treatment. This is the reality of using just an initial appointment now. If you had a heart condition, or were a diabetic, that would be different, as those require long term recurring treatments. This is how the medical category works.

I haven't and in the ɓegining people were getting the visa based on appointments only but if you think about it why would they give you a 5 year visa based on a single appointment? Consequently they've tightened up and now need an approved treatment plan. If you can't get an approved treatment plan remotely I'd suggest coming to Thailand on a tourist visa, getting the plan then travelling to a nearby country to apply for the DTV

that's strange as the website requirements only state proof of appointment is required. Have you been through this process yourself?

You will need documentation from the Thai hospital, along with appointments, doctor's letter, etc.

People have definitely got the DTV under medical from the UK embassy, but you will need the documentation and treatment plan from the Thai hospital.

it should be fine. I would look at the hospitals that they actually favour. Some hospitals are more renowned than others, of course. The price probably reflects that. I do remember Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital have had DTVs approved.

I already have the treatment plan in the UK, I am on the waiting list for surgery, so I assume this won't be too difficult once they have my scans and I have a consultation booked?
