Good. Morning. Visa change question.

My work has finally come through with documents to make my Non B visa. I’m on a Non O now. I need tocancel my non O and leave. Returning on visa exempt. Then apply and go to KL embassy for the non B.

It’s my understanding I need to go to immigration office that issued the non O for cancelation. How long do I have to exit country once they cancel the Non O?

Once canceled can I exit then come back in same day? Just border bounce to KL or Singapore? Or is there required minimum time out of country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking to change their visa from a Non-O to a Non-B and wants to know the process for canceling their current visa and exiting the country. They understand they need to cancel their Non-O visa at the issuing immigration office and are inquiring about the time limits for exiting Thailand after cancellation. The discussion reveals that there is no minimum stay-out period required after cancellation, and it may be possible to return on the same day depending on the visa applied for. Several comments provide insights about the procedure, including potential options based on the user's employment documentation.

If you cancel and leave why not get your non-b while your out of the country

I need to do other things including returning to Thailand. So I’ll cancel visa, leave, submit docs showing I left and apply online for e-Visa as instructed by my company. All the paperwork on their side is done.

Any idea how long I have before I must leave once cancelled. I had forgotten to ask earlier

by midnight. But if you need time you can apply for/buy any other extension (that will be denied because you're not eligible) and get 7 day extension denied stamp to leave the country. You must leave with that stamp. The 7 days starts from the day that you apply/get rejected, so time it well.

Are you on a Non-O for marriage because, if so, you can get a work permit with it then change the reason for your extension (assuming you are no longer on a visa) .You cancel a Non-O visa or Non-O extension by exiting without a re-entry permit if necessary

No minimum number of stay-out is specified to enter Thailand again. You may be able to enter Thailand on the same day you cancel your extension if you just return to Thailand.

BUT, if you apply for your new visa at the RTE/RTCG in another country, you will stay there until the visa is issued.

You seem to mix the procedures a bit. You will take one of these after you cancel the current extension, then leave within the cancellation stamp's validity.

1. Return to Thailand on a visa-exempt for a 60-day stamp. Then go to the local immigration office to apply for an initial Non-B visa.

OR

2. Apply for the initial Non-B visa to the RTE/RTCG during your stay in that country. You wait there until the Non-B visa is issued. Then will enter Thailand on a newly issued visa for a 90-day stamp.

You need to talk with your employer about which one you must follow. It's not your choice. It depends on the documents your employer prepared.

option 2 has been initiated by my company. They are saying 1-2 weeks processing. Is that realistic? I’m gonna have a hard time sitting in KL for two weeks not working

, KL is known for a rather long processing time. You need to check with them. I think I saw the post about that Non-immigrant visa processing time in KL is a bit shorter than DTV/tourist visa, but I cannot assure.

If I recall correctly your employer needs to obtain a WP3 pre approval document from the Department of Labor in order for you to apply for a non B at a Thai Consulate overseas. The last time I tried to do it I was rejected due to lack of WP3 so I just entered Thailand on a VE stamp and applied for the non B in Thailand. I would suggest that entering on a VE and applying for the non B visa in country is the easiest way forward but whatever he decides it needs to be coordinated with the employer.

, employer needs to prepare more documents for you to apply for an initial visa at the local immigration office than for the application to RTE/RTCG. Also, some employers don't meet the requirements for in-country initial visa procedures. That's why you need to talk with the employer and cannot choose on your own.
