Hello.

I am interested in a Retirement Visa for Thailand.

I am 70year old American.

I am researching the internet and also the the Thai Consulate web page in LA.

Has anyone been successful at this recently?

What are the requirements?

I am very aware of the Covid issues, quarantines, lockdowns, fewer airlines ,?etc.

Thanks in advance.

Can I travel outside Thailand and come back with this visa? Return to USA during the year for a month and go back??

I am talking about when countries open up?

Yes you can... because the O-A Visa is a Multi-Entry Visa (no Reentry Permits need to be purchased - in the first year of the O-A). But unless Thai policy changes - Border is open, etc. You could face the same Reentry hurdles and expenses. With a little luck a return to normalcy will occur mid 2021... But?

Yep, as
@T**
says the OA visa is the way forward.

When you’re looking for flights, check Qatar. They are an excellent airline with competitive pricing. I’m using them again, and they are on the list. I’ll be doing what you’re thinking about soon too. Where are you thinking of going in Thailand? I’m loving Chiang Mai. Best of luck.

You would want to get what's called a Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa.

Many many americans have came back to thailand on that visa type without issue

I'm not gonna parrot the requirements on the group, you can read them here

Yes Gene, The O-A Visa is (for you) processed in the USA at a Thai / Consulate / Embassy. Tod posted the consolidated web address where you now upload your documentation. It was different in the past - so you have to "change gears".

Note: O-A is an actual Visa good on face value for a one year stay. In that one year it is not called an Extension of Stay. You haven't really shown confusion on this - my efforts are just to offer some preemptive education.

If you process a "Retirement" Visa One Year Extension in Thailand the money would need to be in a Thai Bank. But note: The O-A long stay Visa is only processed in the Home Country using banked money or monthly income documented in the Home Country.

yes I pulled this up already!

Very confused??

*****
0 THB in Thai Bank????

OR?????

65,000 monthly income?

Or both?????

??????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

@Ge**
It's ONE or the other OR a combination of the two

AND you can show proof of funds in the US using your bank account there to get the VISA issued,

you need the equivalent of 800K baht in the bank OR you need to show income of the equivalent of 65K baht a month in pension etc OR you need a combination of banked money AND monthly income that totals the equivalent of 800K baht for the year

@Tod ********
and during that year can I return to USA and go back to Thailand on the same Visa?
Tod *********
@Ge**
yep, that visa is sold as a year-long, multi-entry Non-O-A so you could exit re-enter no problem. remember though you still go thru the entire request entry process to get back IN to thailand as it is now..
Dharmma **********
@Gene *********
you have to notify your reentries and pay 1k bahts fee for each if you don't get the multiple entries... note that especial circunstances applies coz covid

@Juan *************
that is not correct :/ The O-A visa is sold as a year long, multi-entry visa and good for unlimited entries to thailand as long as the visa is valid for (a year from the date it's issued)

keep in mind in addition to the mandatory insurance to get the VISA issued you will also need to get the 100K US dollars worth of covid insurance, get a fit-2-fly letter from a doctor, book a 15 day quarantine at an approved facility and use one of the flights they list on the consulates website.

The process to request entry to thailand is done online.
