A 65-year-old American seeks advice on the best visa options for retiring in Pattaya, Thailand, focusing on the NON-O retirement visa, which requires proof of 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank account. Helpful comments suggest considering eVisas for a smoother application process, and various opinions highlight the challenges of living in Pattaya, including costs and lifestyle considerations. Most 65 year olds have a 37 year old daughter and an 8 year old granddaughter!

if you know anything about thailand you would realise it's quite normal to see an age gap between the foreigners and there thai partners, unless you live under a rock. And at a guess I would say the majority of males on this site are older than there partners, so I don't really see the point of your comment, unless you like to try and shame or embarrass people for no reason.
Vernon *********
Garry Frazer Might be common in Thailand but that doesn't make it normal!

Have you been to Pattaya recently? Overcrowded. More expensive than Isan. Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai are among the worst places to live in Thailand.

You need it retirement visit it's that simple and so does your wife I believe because she is also out of country passport. You have to show 800,000 baht in the bank every year you have to keep it in the account and be able to pay all your other bills of course. It's not cheap for three people to live in Thailand especially Bangkok if you go to the countryside or smaller cities it could be a bit cheaper. That's for you to figure out how you want to live.

The easiest and smartest route is to obtain an evisa 90 day non-o visa (not oa) based on retirement.

Then you apply for the evisa 90 day non-o dependant visa for your wife and child.

When you arrive in Thailand, you use that visa and open a bank account.

Deposit 800k let it season 60 days then apply for 1 yr extensions.

Total cost about $100 US per person and pretty simple, as long as you meet the 800k financial.

The 800k only applies to you NOT dependants.

No other requirements.

THE OA, requires medical, criminal check and MANDATORY health insurance, is also an option but your dependants get non-o.

if you have any questions please feel free to DM.

I am not an agent but can help you navigate the process.

If you qualify there is no need to use an agent.

You family cannot get dependant visas in country.

Thus why you must come with one.

I am doing same thing as Jeff, planning to retire in Udonthani Thailand. I stay for 3 weeks at a time with no visa every other month. I have the same questions as Jeff. What is the best visa to get - there seems to be many types. I want to go back to US a few times a year. Any advice on visa strategy and a service to help would be great. Thanks.

Live in both for awhile. You'll see why.

any reason not to retire in phillipines? seems less hassles like TM30, 90 DAY REPORT, and annual visa extension or work restriction?

@Ken *****
thailand is simply a better retirement location. And i really like the Philippines too!!!

why so concerned about air quality?

i am not sure about phillipines law and order but its air quality most likely better being an island state surrounded by sea. Pattaya air quality should be better than bangkok and chiangmai. but curiously bangkok suffered from smog often recently. Southern thailand regions like phuket much better in air quality but expensive living cost…

for sure AQI is generally better in Philippines as geography plays a role. But honestly, Pattaya, BKK and CM have some positives, but there are much better options all over the country
