I am an American living in USA, 59 years old, looking to get a retirement visa (O-A). I have an existing SCB bank account from working in Thailand last year. I can demonstrate the required 800,000 bht and a monthly income of 60,000bht. Has anyone successfully been issued a O-A visa in covid era? Any advice on how to proceed?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is an American aged 59, seeking guidance on obtaining a retirement visa (O-A) while currently in the USA. They have met the financial requirements of showing 800,000 baht and a monthly income of 60,000 baht, as well as having a Thai bank account. Commenters shared advice, including the necessity of Thai health insurance, contacting the local Thai embassy or consulate for application procedures, and highlighted that many embassies are currently issuing the O-A visa despite ongoing travel restrictions. They also recommended joining Facebook groups for updates from foreigners already experiencing the visa entry process.

okay, not to shut this down, BUT there are more than a few fb groups out there about foreigners stranded abroad and the process they go thru to get permission to entry granted AND to get the appropriate visa to enter the country. AT this time we are not accepting posts from people outside of thailand who want to get in. The place to start is the thai consulate in the country you're in AND one of those foreigners abroad who wanna get back here f/b pages.

I've copied the link to the OA visa from the Washington Embassy which gives full information, but you may have a consulate closer to where you live.

Many embassies are issuing the OA. Best to contact your closest embassy or consulate

Contact the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your area for the O-A visa application.

Remember if you get an OA visa you will have to show Thai Insurance every year

. The OP is 59. Insurance is not expensive.

that is easy to do...not expensive.

And many return each year or two and obtain a new O-A

And as this expat is now in the US...the only way he can return is with the O-A visa as the Non O extension of stay you probably have in your passport will NOT get you permission to enter Thailand.
