What is the best visa for a 66-year-old from the USA looking to retire in Thailand, and how do I go about applying for it?

Youve all have been here Once before Im 66 from USA confused as crap. Flt booked arrive 1mo hope full to get a retirement visa. Now best visa to get To start that? Where do I apply? Im aware of retirement visa requirements but I have to get there first. Kuwait airlines to bangkok so do I need a throw away ticket if airlines asks? going to use a agent heading to Jomtiem hotel for a week while looking for condo to rent for 2months while paperwork gets done. Can i rent a condo with a copy of my passport in case agent needs it for some time.
