What are the requirements for crossing from Thailand to Laos and back while on a DTV visa?
Good morning everyone. My wife and I are on the DTV visa and we're due to leave the kingdom again in November. I'm trying to make a little more fun out of it, so we were going to take the trains from Surat Thani to Vientiane, spend the night in Vientiane, then take the trains back to Surat Thani. Has anyone crossed in Nong Khai recently? Some people in the train group said they thought the visa agents there were telling people they had to be in Laos 2 days or something along those lines. Even if we do, we can do that, I just wanted to make sure I'm purchasing my train tickets for the right schedule.

If you're going that far get the train from Vientiane to Laung Prabang. Only takes 2 hours.

Why not take a train to Malaysia, crossing at Padang Besar, since already located at Surat Thani??

OPDca Dca honestly, my wife is transgender and I'm not sure how we'd be treated in Malaysia since technically there are religious objections.

Teddee Jordan Yes, a train to Laos, or, perhaps, a flight to Laos, Vietnam, or Taiwan may be the more efficient alternative to a train to Laos in these circumstances

OPWannikea Wanblee the fun is the train ride. And last trip we took a motorcycle trip to Ranong, and next trip we're taking a one month vacation to motorcycle tour northern Thailand, but no, I don't feel like driving for hours everyday and taking an extended time off work every time I need to renew my stamp. I've been to Vientiane, so I don't feel the need to spend a lot of time there again, just enough to fulfill the visa requirements to come back without issues. Thanks for your useful response though.

You have to spend time in Laos if you're trying to cross into Thailand visa exempt, without a visa.
