What are the proof of funds requirements for dependent visas in Thailand?

I have one question regarding proof of funds for dependent visas. I plan to go to Penang.

I have a work permit and my husband and 10 year old son has non immigrant o visas based on my employment. Do I need to show 400.000 for both of them (total 800.000) and do the money have to be in Thai bank account? I can show the suffiecent amount but in an european bank account. Will that be enough?

And I also wonder how many month my work permit needs to valid for, 8 or 9 monhts. Thanks for you help

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry addresses the proof of funds necessary for obtaining dependent visas for the user's husband and 10-year-old son, in addition to clarifying work permit validity requirements. Specifically, the user asks if they must demonstrate 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account or if funds in a European account are sufficient. Responses suggest a minimum of 800,000 THB may be needed for each dependent visa application. Additionally, the user is advised that having at least 8 months of validity on the work permit is preferable when applying for multiple entry visas at the consulate in Penang. The discussion progresses to the potential benefits of applying for an Extension of Stay for the family instead of new visas.

I have some questions for the O/P, are you on a yearly extension of stay based on employment or are you on a year-long, multi-entry Non-B from a thai consulate (where you exit and re-enter every 90 days).

I am NOT sure the immigration office will issue extensions of stays to spouses or children of people on year-long, multi-entry Non-B visas because you aren't ON any extension of stay, you're on a visa that requires you to leave the country every 90 days to get another 90 day stamp.

If you were on an extension of stay there is no financial requirement to get your husband and your child piggy-backed onto your extension as the spouse and the child of a person who legally works here on a long term extension.

The financial requirements are only if you are getting a dependent visa to support your child, NOT if you are trying to piggy-back a child on to your extension.

If I read the requirements on the Immigration website is seems more easy to apply for an Extension of Stay for your husband and your son than getting both a new Visa en Penang.:

@To**
, that's what I think too. I don't think they will issue extensions to her family because the O/P is NOT on an extension. OR if they do they would do it only 90 days at a time
Robert *******
As also mentioned by
@T**
. It seems to me more easy, as I read the heading: "an alien permitted a temporary stay in the Kingdom". You could be right that 90 days in not enough. I pointed out another option, asking information at her local Immigration Office can make it clear for her.

The OP would only have 90 days permission of stay...i think that will be the limiting factor for any extension of stay given. But I could be wrong...

@Tony *******
Read my comment, I copied this part out of it: "Extension of Stay for your husband and your son"

Tod Daniels true...but as the OP is based, I believe, In Koh Phangan...its relevant. She also says she does not have 4 Thai staff...and so an extension of stay is also irelevant.

I also have an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai and it was VERY doc and visit intensive. Mine is work funded and not using banked funds. I think what you mean is it's easier if have the required funds too. I guess mine was the most difficult combination possible 🤣

@Tony *******
That you are compelled to jump thru hoops down in the south with that immigration office (which is run like its own kingdom) does not mean that everyone else who deals with the immigration offices scattered around the country does.

Having a company and getting a yearly extension of stay based on that is far more paperwork intensive than getting a yearly extension based on marriage to a thai.

Thanks for your help. Appreciate it.

I have no experience in dependant Visa application, but reading requirements it is the 400.000 Thb for one application, so I would say: you need a minimum of 800.000 for both of them. For the Extensions of Stay as I mentioned and pointed out in the link there is no financial requirement.

Well since you have very different experiences, maybe one of you can tell me if I need to show 400.000 in Thai bank account for each of them or only my husband 😂
Tony ********
Yep, still stand by what I said.
Robert *******
Take a look at the link I posted, my comments are reply's to your comment that it is never easier and reading this you compare your situation with the OP question. Which is also irrelevant.
Tony ********
And besides, your comment is irrelevant as the OP is not married to a Thai 😐
Tony ********
Me too and I have a company and a work permit...and it took TONS of paperwork, two trips to immigration in Samui so far and another to come, a visit to my house to 'inspect' it also...maybe it's easier in your location...
Robert *******
Yes.

@Robert ******
married to a Thai national?
Robert *******
I have an Extension of Stay based on marriage.
Tony ********
@Robert ******
extension of stay based on what? For one Year?
Robert *******
I abuse my copy function on the printer for a few times, take the bike to Immigration, apply for Extension Of Stay pay 1.900 Thb and back home for lunch, 1 time a year. And you call sitting in a Minivan for 8 hours, stay overnight at hotel, apply early morning with home made copies at the consulate, spent an afternoon in Penang, stay overnight, collect passport in afternoon and drive to the border, show 20.000 Thb cash, drive back home more easy? Plus a border run every 90 days.

Year extensions are NEVER easier than Penang visas.

Even if I can only get a multiple entry visa myself? The company I work for is not employing 4 this.
Robert *******
If you want to have the 1 year Multiple Entry Non B visa, the Consulate in Penang want to see a Work Permit with minimum 8 months validity.

Don't make a visa for your son. Or an ed visa.
Sa *******
I was just thinking than you don't need the proof of money for him. He speaks good Thai so he will get the visa easy.
Sa *******
Shania had one ed but the new school is incapable of filling the forms which is ridiculous. She is the only farang under 1300students. So this year no visa but Immigration Said next year she will need one again. The ed single entry is only 1900b.

He has had a proper visa since he was born. I am happy to pay for his visa and know that everything is in order. As the grown ups needs to do boarder bounces, he has to come with us anyway.
