What are the income requirements for applying for a DTV visa in Thailand?

Hi, I have some questions about the DTV. We are in our early 40s, retired early, and moved to Bangkok last month. We are planning to apply for the DTV soon. My spouse is a certified science teacher from the USA and just started tutoring on the Preply website. Since she is fairly new to the platform, there isn’t much income coming in yet; we assume it will be around $500 monthly. Our main source of income is from dividends, which total around $3,000 monthly. Will this be okay for a DTV application? Or does she need a more stable remote job with higher income?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the financial eligibility for applying for a DTV visa amidst concerns about income stability. The couple, newly relocated to Bangkok, primarily relies on $3,000 monthly from dividends and an anticipated $500 from tutoring. Community responses suggest that having adequate savings and evidence of income may suffice, with some recommending routing through soft power to ease the application process.

that's what we were wondering. I know they don’t require a specific income amount from remote jobs for the DTV, but with our low income, we’re worried about rejection. We considered soft power, but if this tutoring job qualifies us for the DTV, we’d rather not explore that option.

Anonymous participant if you can show a somewhat atable income history its usually good enough

Use the softpower route and then it'll be easier and you'll get through based on financial stability.

Anonymous participant 609 if she intends to work remotely from inside Thailand she must apply with workation. Soft power is for those that don't want to work

No John, you can confirm with the embassy as many others have in the past, you are allowed to work remotely even with a Softpower DTV (currently) provided you aren't engaging with Thai clients.

There are remote workers who sign up for soft power programs and apply DTV using the same route.

Anyway. All best to the applicant.

Anonymous participant 609 you can apply for the DTV using 3 routes, workation, soft power or accompanying family. The visa is issued for the route you apply for

Anonymous participant 609 why when they are working with a income?

depends on embassy to embassy!

I'm just saying what's safest as income from remote work is low but financial stability is high.

Again as per my understanding, I think softpower will have higher probability of success.

Anonymous participant 609 of the paperwork is good, the person qualify i think workation is better. There is a BIG chance they gonna make more recuirements for softpower in the future. Like attendance proof when in the country etc

speculation. When the visa is approved the requirements have been met. They don't typically revoke visas once approved. In the future they may get stricter on approving DTVs, but it's still speculation.

yes its speculation. But it just happened with education visa. And anyone understand why alot use soft power pr now.

you have a point.

I think a lot of those schools teaching Thai for the ED Visa were closer to visa mills than actual language schools. Doesn't help when it's easy for the immigration officer to grill you on what you didn't learn directly, which is what happened and help wreck the perception of ED Visa program.

You can apply yourself first and add her as dependent.

Anonymous participant Do you actively manage your investments ? If so, you can apply as self-employed and mentioned both your passive (dividend) and active investments. Some folks have done it with DTV.
