TLDR : Answer Summary
The community generally agrees that bringing a personal iMac into Thailand as a carry-on does not typically incur any customs tax, as long as it's not more than one sealed in a box. Users advise to carry it in a laptop bag to avoid suspicion, and many have traveled in and out of Thailand with personal electronics without issue.

I travel with two laptops. Never once an issue. Also, customs here in kinda optional here. I only ever see Indian travelers with 12 suite cases going through customs. I assumed they do that because they think they'll get some donuts or a prize or something. Everybody else just walks around.
Lol, contrary to popular belief, all checked luggage is looked it with an xray by customs before it comes out on the belt. If they see something suspicious in it, they'll tag it and wait to see who collects it, then have them open it on inspection.
Anytime I bring in a cardboard box, they always stop me and check it. Suitcases only once.

No. Just walk on through. I have been travelling in and out of Thailand on a regular rotation for work for 15 + years, no problems at all.
