Well we were dreading flying back into CNX on our DTVs this time, having read a few horror stories. But we picked the smiley young woman and she probably was nice to us because we're over 60😃. It was a relief, particularly as we'd just returned from stressful family stuff. I guess if you stay positive and you're legit it will be ok.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster expressed initial concerns about returning to Chiang Mai on their DTVs, influenced by negative stories they had read. However, upon arrival, they encountered a friendly immigration officer, which eased their worries. Other commenters shared their experiences, noting that issues at Chiang Mai immigration seem to arise primarily for first-time entrants on a DTV, while those with multiple entries had different experiences.
Exactly, very small numbers of DTVERS with issues on arrival.

I've only seen reports of Chiang Mai being difficult if it's someone's very first entry in Thailand on a DTV. You said "back into" so it doesn't seem like it was your first entry.
There have been reports of CNX being difficult. Maybe they're true, maybe they're not but ultimately we made the decision to not worry about it and it was cool. We've flown in and out a few times. Got shouted at once but IO was prob having a bad day that time.
immagration are not being difficult they are being very nice and asking legitimate questions in relation to your visa. It's just people who are not legitimate are concerned they may not have what is asked so they get nervous. Like you said genuine people have no issue
I feel it is a double edged sword with CM Immigration. They can be sticklers for paperwork but on the other hand they are the most helpful immigration I have dealt with in Thailand - and I have dealt with Jomtien, Chimchurri One Stop Shop and Bangkok main immigration.
