TLDR : Answer Summary
To find the best flights from Las Vegas to Chiang Mai, popular websites mentioned include Google Flights, Skyscanner, and Kayak. It's advisable to book directly via the airline's website to avoid issues with third-party sites. The best time for lower prices is after September, avoiding February to May when air quality is poor due to smoke and fire pollution.
i fly to samui because I live on the islands so san fran offers a 500 flight through united to Singapore then to samui. But yes to bkk from LA is cheaper

I avoid LA when possible because of the long walks between terminals.
or LAX, I find LA to BKK sometimes cheaper than SFO

Sometimes it is cheaper to do LAS (9th island) to HNL then use Air Asia to get there. Flights are often $300 round trip from HNL.

I use the sites to find availability and general prices, and then book directly from the carrier because changing flights or getting refunds from a 3rd party site is extremely difficult or impossible sometimes.
Usually it's only 20 dollars more, but it can be really worth it if your connecting flight is late.

Kayak.com. Than book on airline site. You will probably find better rates if you book LA to Bangkok or Chang Mai. Then book separately from LV to LA. Also, Korean Air flies direct from LV to Seoul than to Chang Mai or Bangkok.

From the US, the ticket will be cheaper after September.
"worst weather," is a bit of a myth really. Some of the best weather days are during rainy season in my opinion. The heat can be oppressive all year round but more likely to be too much during dry season.

I agree! I've been to Thailand 2x now, once in August for a month and 2 weeks in November. However, the rainy season doesn't necessarily mean it rains all day everyday.
