What are the best visa options for someone going through a divorce in Thailand while managing health issues and offshore work?

Hi asking for some advice, sor for a long post

I’m in the process of a divorce with my thai wife, we lived outside Chiang Mai near Doisaket so now have to start all over again, don’t really have much in Australia

I have to change visa’s as marriage visa no longer an option so considering this visa as a possibility but not sure

I work offshore on ships in Australia/ worldwide (mainly Australia) 4 on/ 4 off & want to stay living in Thailand as have been here for around 12yrs & have been seeing a doctor since August 24 for some serious health conditions (heart) & diabetes

Not sure if DVT or LVR is best? DVT is cheaper but not sure if I would qualify under workcation as technically I work remotely on ships in Australia or worldwide but not a digital nomad

Under soft options I could use my medical treatment but does the doctors need to be accepted/registered through /with this visa?

LTR initially 5 times the amount, 10 year visa, I meet the salary conditions under the “work from Thailand professional” can work for a Thai company, have health cover fo US$50K

Any advice if offshore would pass as work remotely or not for the workcattion & the soft option for my medical conditions & if any doctor can be used or if they have to be part of a conglomerate (BKK hospital or similar private system ect)

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post discusses a user's situation regarding visa options after a divorce from their Thai spouse. They are considering the DVT and LTR visa options due to their long-term residence in Thailand and ongoing medical treatments. The community provides insights on eligibility requirements, including work status and medical documentation, suggesting that the LTR might be the most beneficial choice if they meet the conditions.
LONG TERM RESIDENT (LTR) VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES

Go see a dentist and get a 6 month treatment plan get those choppers looking good. Use the dental plan to apply for DTV in Australia best visa by far for you
Siggi *******
Omg go for non O retirement, you can get your extension without doing any new visa, once you are really divorced.

Multi entry and you are fine for ever
Christopher ********
Soft option, have your Dr write up a treatment schedule for the next 6 months - appointments, treatments, and proper timeline. As long as you dont work in thailand or for a Thai company you are within the guidelines.

Workcation could work as long as you have regular income.

But if you qualify for the LTR I'd get that instead.

Anonymous participant I would take a look at a multiple entry retirement visa as well. You just have to renew it every year. The LTR is better if you qualify for it. Because you are working on and off outside of thailand maybe contact an immigrations lawyer. Consultations are cheap and they can really look at your whole situation and give you the best advice on what type of visa you should go with.

holding $40k Australian in a thai bank account is not a preferred option as it’s basically not touchable to keep the visa

I’ve emailed about the LTR Visa for advice but thought would ask here about DTV as looks a much better option than a retirement visa

Anonymous participant if you have been seeing the same medical doctors for your conditions then they should have no problem providing you with the needed letters under the soft power option. You are a legitimate reason under medical treatment option.

Anonymous participant use an agent if u don’t want the money tied up I. A Thai bank

You can apply for a DTV visa yourself while outside of thailand or pay an agent to help you do it while you are inside of thailand. I just got mine but if you do it the way I did which was while I was still inside of thailand you won't like the price.

Do not quote me and do a search but pretty sure I saw someone approved in similar situation to you. Aussie doing FiFo. For soft power medical as long as it is an official hospital etc and they sign off should be OK.

Travel for work won't qualify for workation, that's for working remotely from inside Thailand. You could try soft power on medical grounds but will need a treatment plan signed off by doctor and stamped by hospital. I'd seriously consider the LTR if you qualify as you get a tax exemption on foreign income
