You have 7 years to plan to move to Thailand with your wife . Plenty of time

My advice is never think we can stay in this country till the end because once you run out of money then is time you need to fly back to your own country.

Always remember! This country don't appreciate how much you bring in and what you have done or build up for your Thai family because there is only very little chance for you to stay forever unless you have money keep coming in.....,

As for short holiday, Yes it's a super good country to enjoy mate

That's enough to live. Put the 300k in sp500 and short term bonds. It will generate you 5-10% a year. It's enough to live with your pension. But just be careful of the wife's family draining you dry of expenses.

My advice is leave the assets safely back home.

We registered our marriage in Thailand and applied for the spouse 1 year extension. It's a very easy process. However I don't need any proof of income or savings, neither does my husband. They don't even ask how much he makes. For foreign men with Thai wives you do need savings or proof of income. But otherwise I would say the visa process is very similar

Non O visa . Sounds the easiest option.

If you receive money for sale house and pension, you can live here in Thailand. You need to apply the non imm visa before you arrive here in Thailand

Retirement or Married Visa.

You can get Visa Retirement when you Age 50.

Or you can get Married visa if you have income enough to look after your family.

THB monthly is enough.

Luit van der Linde BKK immigration doesn't accept the 40k monthly income method for marriage visa. You need 400k in your bank account.

Dimitri Visser I heard not evcery office accepts combination method, but that some not accept income method which is just a requitrement as mentioned in law, is new to me.

Are you sure they do not accept income affidavit?

Do they tell why they reject?

If you were married in the Netherlands there are probably some extra hoops you should go through before leaving the country should you choose the marriage visa route. Get your marriage certificate apostilled by the authorities there and approved by the Thai embassy, you will likely need a translation as well

oh I thought you need to get the certificate authenticated as Thailand do not accept apostilles until Feb 2027.

yes, that's what the Thai embassy does

If no other investments and just play Ning to burn thru the 300k until pension kicks in......even assuming no massive inflation increase.....you have about 45k/yr. Can be done semi-comfortably in the countryside but with zero emergency/contingency. What about medical?

Wim Schoonheim did you check prices for private health insurance? The monthly insurance premium is very high if you are at retirement age. Much higher than what you pay in NL. 600 for health insurance and food will not be enough.

Wim Schoonheim And concerning the money for the year extension, keep in mind that the Dutch Embassy still issues an income statement (Visumondersteuningsbrief)

get the marriage registered inside Thailand. Then as soon as you have sold your house, or as soon as you can put the equivalent of 400,000 THB into your home country bank account, apply in Holland for the 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa (based on being married to a Thai wife). Enter Thailand, immediately get a Thai bank account opened, and transfer a minimum of 400,000 THB into it. Wait until the money has been sitting in the account for 2 months, get the bank letter, visit the Amphur and get the fresh printout Kor Ror 2 or 22 of the marriage registry, and visit Immigration. Apply for the 1-year extension of temporary stay permit based on being married to a Thai wife. Immigration will issue a 4-weeks under consideration period, theywill visit you at home, and after that you pick up the extension stamp

2 options, Non-O retirement visa would be your simplest option, a non-O marriage visa is also an option.

Get a Non-O 90 day visa based on retirement to enter the country. When you enter the country, open a bank account to deposit the 800,000 baht. And then apply for a 12 month extension.

Similar process for Non-O marriage visa, but only need to deposit 400,000 baht. The only issue with the marriage extension is you will need to show extra documents. When you apply for a 12 month extension you'll need to stay where you're living with your wife because immigration officers will probably come and inspect to verify you are living there legitimately.

Justin Hollebon thanks

Wim Schoonheim Also for the non-O marriage extension you only need to hold that 400,000 baht for 2 months before you apply. But it's advisable to hold it until you get the physical stamp in your passport which can take up to 30 days after you first apply.

Unless things have changed recently, for the retirement extension you'll need to hold 800,000 baht for 6 months before you get the extension, and 400,000 for the 6 months after you get your extension. I'm on a marriage extension, so I can't remember the rule exactly for the retirement extension. I'm sure someone will correct me if what I wrote there isn't accurate.

Justin Hollebon it is 800k for 2 months before the extension application then 800k maintained for the first 3 months of the extension and never dropping below 400k for the rest of the year, so more like & 7 but your 6&6 would cover that

Wim Schoonheim no such visa… you get 90 days then extend every 12 months or DTV for 5 years… or LTR / Elite…

need to do some research as many depend on age
