Hi, where is good to go when doing a visa run? We would rather fly somewhere nearby but interesting from Bangkok. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses various travel destinations for those considering a visa run from Bangkok. Suggestions include Siem Reap for its cultural allure, Vietnam and Kuala Lumpur for their proximity and appeal, and even further locations like Tokyo and Chengdu for unique experiences. Also, clarifications are made between a 'visa run' (to apply for a new visa) and a 'border run' (to re-enter Thailand without a visa), highlighting the importance of specifying the intended type of travel.

I always did siem reap. Good times, and awesome country/city

I did Tokyo on my last one. Definitely worth the extra airfare which still was a good price. Can be done reasonably cheap if get digs in the old quarter and buy a 3 day rail pass to get you into the centre of things. ๐

a "visa run" means you travel to a country where you want to apply for a new Thai visa. A "border run" means you travel to another country, stay a specific amount of time oder try to "bounce" in one day, and intend to re-enter Thailand without a visa

you forgot to say what you mean with a "visa run" . . . do you want to do a "visa run" or just a "border run" ? Big difference

Dubai is lovely at this time of year

Take your pick, Vietnam is nice, I also quite like KL. If you're after something a bit different then China / Chengdu is only a 3hr flight and is quite popular with Thais. The mountains are currently covered in snow and is an option if you're from a country that gets visa free entry.
This is assuming you're planning to re enter Thailand visa exempt

Are you asking about a border bounce or an actual visa run?
