Hi, where is good to go when doing a visa run? We would rather fly somewhere nearby but interesting from Bangkok. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats seeking a destination for a visa run from Bangkok have several options. Popular suggestions include Siem Reap for its charm and culture, as well as Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur. Other recommended locations are the bustling city of Tokyo, Vietnam, and even Chengdu, China. Clarifying the difference between a "visa run" (for obtaining a new visa) and a "border run" (brief exits for re-entry) is important, as it affects destination choice.

I always did siem reap. Good times, and awesome country/city

I did Tokyo on my last one. Definitely worth the extra airfare which still was a good price. Can be done reasonably cheap if get digs in the old quarter and buy a 3 day rail pass to get you into the centre of things. ๐

England , but take something warm to wear

a "visa run" means you travel to a country where you want to apply for a new Thai visa. A "border run" means you travel to another country, stay a specific amount of time oder try to "bounce" in one day, and intend to re-enter Thailand without a visa

you forgot to say what you mean with a "visa run" . . . do you want to do a "visa run" or just a "border run" ? Big difference

Take your pick, Vietnam is nice, I also quite like KL. If you're after something a bit different then China / Chengdu is only a 3hr flight and is quite popular with Thais. The mountains are currently covered in snow and is an option if you're from a country that gets visa free entry.
This is assuming you're planning to re enter Thailand visa exempt
