I am currently on a non o retirement visa. Unfortunately I couldn’t get my bank account open in enough time to seed my 800,000 baht. I would prefer not to leave Thailand at the end of this visa. It expires late October. What are my options. Thanks in advance
Answer summary
A user on a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand is facing challenges in meeting the financial requirement of 800,000 baht due to delays in opening a bank account. They seek advice on their options before their visa expires in late October. Multiple comments suggest exploring possibilities with immigration officials, working with an agent to navigate the rules, or restarting the visa process by leaving Thailand. Some alternatives include showing a monthly income instead of the lump sum or discussing options directly with immigration. The community advises against overstaying and emphasizes verifying information with the proper immigration office.

If you can show an income of 65,000 baht per month, you won't need the 800,000.

Henrik Kristensen you need to show 12 months of that income though so that wouldn’t work in this situation.

Your best option is to go back to your country earn more money before considering moving to Thailand

John Gorrie I strongly hope so ! This advice that 30 days of overstay are not a problem, is sick. It is very sick and a dangerous advice

John Gorrie Take any bet that Koh Samui Immigration will not be "flexible" and an agent won't be able to change that. Koh Samui Immigration is known for strict setting of rules. You will have to leave Thailand and start anew. You COULD re-enter visa-exempt, but before you start this, you need to ask your Immigration what they require for a "change of visa type" from the exempt entry to an initial 90-Days Non-Imm-O visa, and IF the are actually offering the service for a "change" at all . . . . . on most Immigrations, for the "change" you not only need the money already sitting in your Thai bank account, for the conversion you would need a rental contract and a proof that the money came from abroad. You would not need any of these requirements if you enter on a new and valid 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa

Your description is not good enough for a complete answer. The suggestion to talk to Immigration is correct. If you already opened your bank account and you can show them bank records they may be flexible. If you have not opened your bank account then the suggestion to start over is likely the best option.

It is my personal opinion that agents are not the answer to everything. Remember if they promise you a shortcut it is you that is on the hook for any problems.

I've never heard of an immigration being "flexible" on the seasoning of money. It's a standard and firm requirement that you must be able to show the funds were in your Thai bank account for 2 full months

I have a different experience. It never hurts to let them help solve your problem.

start over i made sure i got my account open with Kasikorn i hit the 60 day mark on oct 13 my visa expires on the 22 so if i have any issues on the 13th with immigration i still have extra days to sort out . I dunno about you but was a pain in the ass to open up a bank account

pathum thani

Also i originally was using a visa agent in bangkok there first innial begins with a B

But they made mistakes with the entire Process and you say AI is wrong well guess what i at the last step now. Just have to go to the bank one last time on the day that i go to immigration to finish this with the bank letter and the other paperwork immigration needs to finish this

which immigration office told you that?

no i went to immigration here 60 days has to be in the bank

@Terry *******
who told you? Don't listen to AI, its completely unreliable on visa related issues. The rule is that the money must be in the account for at least 2 months before applying for the extension. For 2nd and subsequent extensions some immigration offices actually require it's in the account for at least 3 months before applying

You have the option to talk to an agent to see if they can get around the seasoning rule for the 800,000 THB in your Thai bank account and apply for the 1-year extension.

The only other option is leaving Thailand and restart, apply for another 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa either in your home country, or in a neighbouring country like Laos or Vietnam.

Avoid going into overstay at any cost! In case you can’t use an agent, you MUST EXIT Thailand before your 90-days stay permit expires.

Andreas Mueller leaving Thailand and applying for a non O isn’t the only option. He can also border bounce visa exempt and get the non O in Thailand since he already has a bank account
Andreas *********
Andreas *********
BreezyGiraffe4639 yes you are right, he could do that, but for this he not only needs the money already sitting in his Thai bank account, for this he would need a rental contract and a proof that the money came from abroad. He would not need any of these requirements if he enters on a Non-Imm-O Visa

Lee Pornsuwan Don't overstay - what a stupid suggestion but do talk to immigration or talk to a well established visa, agency who will sort it out for him
Andreas *********
Andreas *********
Lee Pornsuwan that's a very bad idea ! You should NEVER knowingly go into overstay if you can avoid it

Use an agent, or leave and start over with a new non-O.
